Ok...I tried to use the search function, but I couldn't get it to work. Anyways, for those of you that have been to Phi Phi - what part of the island is the best part to stay? Or what is the difference between parts of the island? I've done some research, but I don't feel like I'm finding good information.

In addition, does anyone have a recommendation for a place to stay? Thanks!

I just left Koh Phi Phi yesterday after staying there for about a week. The layout of Koh Phi Phi is basically two small islands connected by a narrow stretch of land with beach on both sides (isthmus). The main tourist village is on the isthmus. There's plenty of places to stay there depending on your budget.

The Rock Backpacker is a dorm hostel that has has beds from 300B and single rooms from 400B. Good place to meet people but not the best place to get a good nights sleep.

JJ Bungalow- Very nice rooms for 1700B per night. You get a nice balcony and a very large and clean room. I liked this place but it was too much for a solo traveler. A/C

PP Casita- Nice single room bungalows at 2000B per night. Includes breakfast but i dont think its worth the money. A/C

Sacha's Guest House. Clean and simple place to stay. Mosquitoes got me good. 800B per night. Great location. Fan

Amena's GH - right behind the internet cafe across from pp casita. fan room for 600b and ac for 1000b. Great value but limited rooms.

Those are the places i stayed. YOu dont need ac this time of year. Phi Phi is small so you can walk around. YOu can also stay at runtee beach. They have bungalows over there for about 1000b but you will have to take a boat there or hike over the viewpoint. I plan on going there for a few days when i get back to phi phi but fair warning... its secluded. Paradise tho... no doubt.

why not stay in patong or phuket city and then take a day trip to phi phi? then, you can experience more of the nightlife/culture/cuisine of phuket while still enjoying the solitude of phi phi...

just got back from Lanta and there were a lot of travelers there hating on Phi Phi as of late. Also right now there is literally no vacancies anywhere on the island for accommodation. Lanta was also difficult. Call ahead.

I spent my first night on Phuket before heading over to Phi Phi. I found it to be way too touristy, and pretty sketchy at night.
As for Phi Phi, Long beach is my preferred place to stay. I stayed at Paradise Resort in a bungalow for about $50/night, right on the beach. In my opinion this is the best site to use: http://phi-phi.com/hotel/searchbungalows.htm

Lanta is nice looking, but not good for a solo traveler. . . all couples and families there.

A bunch of friends and I went to Thailand for Christmas vacay. In my experience, Patong was a bit of a drag. I felt sketchy most of the time that I was there. I love a good party, but night after night of working girls dancing on bars was a bit "meh." The beaches werent really anything spectacular either. Many friends had told me I should skip patong and head straight to Phi Phi. I wish I had taken their advice in the end.

Annnyways...

We stayed at Natures Viking Resort in Makmai 1A. If you are going with a few friends this place was wicked-- we had a huge treehouse with a big wrap around porch and tons of privacy. It wasn't too far from the main area either. If its just you or one friend (there were 4 of us) you might consider other places as someone else had suggested as they are cheaper. The treehouse was about $30 pp for the night but WELL worth it. We hired a boat for 4 hours that took us around to monkey island and all those other places, as well as a few secret awesome places I'd never heard of before. Dont do the overpriced speedboat tour to phi phi. Take the ferry, and stay for at least 2 days. Make sure you eat at Papaya!

Then we stayed on Phi Phi Le on Maya Bay. You've heard of the notorious Dicaprio island Im sure. Barely worth visiting it during the day when its packed with tourists. We went with www.mayabaycamping.com it was about 20 foreigners and a few locals and you can sleep under the stars. It's quite the party, but we met so many great people and I felt it a very welcome change from the Patong scene. We sat on beach mats on the beach and listened to music, swam in the neon plankton and drank alot of buckets. There were tents but 90% of the people stayed awake til pretty late and chose to sleep on the beach. It was about 70 CAD for the night but there was tons of food, great snorkelling, a bit of free booze and an excellent time all around. Im not a party animal but I really enjoyed myself here.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
