Scooters and small bikes do have a chance of being stolen, but a heavy lock does a pretty good job of protecting your bike....and yes you have to register it. |

Yes, you have to register it. |

John,
Yep, normal for bikes in the winter.
Let it warm up until she idles nicely without throttle and without dipping down in the rev range (when cold the bike will tend to rev under what it would normally rev at when idling).
You can hold the throttle at about 2,000RPM and let her warm up for about 5 minutes...she should be pretty good to go after that, but riding slowly at first can't hurt. Never rev a bike hard when cold, even in the summer. |

| v88, thanks for the information. I figured it was normal but after I had my first Comet engine die on me I've been a bit paranoid about the bikes and mechanics here. |

Nathan Woods Trail Riding
Check it out. At about 3:40 minutes into the video he gets air and just floats a couple of hundred feet down the fire road. Great moto video. |

You need insurance before you register your bike.
You need to register your bike in order to get plates.
You need papers to register your bike.
Riding without can be done but it's not something I would suggest as you will be up sh--- creek if you have an accident and it's not really that tough to get it all done legit and give a good name to bikers in Korea who have a hard up hill battle ahead of them trying to get legitimized on the Korean roadways and expressways. |
Thank you. |
Just wanna add one little tid-bit...
You also have to register your signature/name stamp with your local city hall as well. This is for your sake as it prevents others from copying your signature/name stamp for anytime you want to own personal property of significance.
I actually registered my name stamp written in Chinese characters. NO ONE can copy that. BUT that name stamp has to be well protected also. |

first of all, just want to introduce myself, i'm a korean mechanic who speaks english, i know most people are weary of korean bike mechanics but i opened up a shop near itaewon specifically for foreigners. so that they feel comfortable, not ripped off etc. but funny, someone wrote about me on here, and they were happy about my services so i thought i would come back, you can search "suseok" that is my name, there is a posting on here.
back to burnburnrubber...i have something called "tool time" at the shop, where you can rent out the space and all my tools to fool around with your own bike. 20,000 won/hr and i can be there to help to if needed. i know foreigners like to fix their own bikes sometimes and tools are expensive.
it may not help you as i think u might be in incheon. sorry about that! i hope some day to have a shop there too.
i hope to answer some questions on here too, about registering bikes etc.. to help foreigners with their bikes and scooters. if anyone has question about bikes, i would be happy to help answer. |

Yeah, killed in a riding accident a few days ago. He was a pro caliber sx rider and pretty fast. Wearing the best Arai helmet and a neck brace, too. |

No tools in Korea...all at home. However, a hammer and a flat head screw driver work wonders if you are careful. You just need to be sure not to scratch things up (very easy to do). Soaking the area with degreaser can also help. What ever you do, don't hit the races with the screw driver. |

Watch in HD if your Internet connection is fast enough.
Anyone know where the dialogue is from?
Pretty motivating. |

Anyone here watched Long Way Down with Ewan Mcgregor, I'm downloading it now? Should there only be 6 episodes?
I enjoyed the first one, Long Way Around, although I found Charlie to be a bit of a goof. |

nah... the head tapers in the center just enough that a drift can't reach the shoulder of the race. i fanangled something with some all-thread, nuts and washers that would catch. that, coupled with the puller i just bought (damn it) eventually did the trick . what a pain. the service manual says to use a straight drift, but it's actually impossible. strange. i'm hoping i don't have to struggle too much pressing the new races in with my fancy press (again... all-thread, nuts washers). thanks anyway.
...and a big bottle of loctite for naught but 10 drops on my rotor bolts.
themechanickorea... do you happen to know anywhere to purchase tools for a good price? any large e-mart style tool and supply shops?
i really feel like i should be able to buy a cheap torque wrench (beam type) for around 30,000 but damned if i can find anything for less than 300,000. |
