I'm confused about the CBC and the authentication and apostille process and am hoping someone can help clear things up for me.

I got the FBI check done in November and then had some family issues and had to delay going to Korea. I just took a look at it today and turns out it was never authenticated with the stamp/signature. I know I can send it back in but it will take an additional 2-4 works and I don't really have that time...

Does it need to be authenticated/is there a way around sending it back to get it done? I seem to read conflicting reports.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Okay. I got the FBI background check without an apostille. Big mistake, right? I mean, do I have to start from the beginning, or can I take the document somewhere to get the apostille? Does the apostille have to come from any certain place?
Then what about having an apostille for my diploma(s)? One recruiter said it should come from the Korean embassy. Is that right? Should it be for my college and Master degrees?
Thanks in advance!

It doesn't come with an apostille. You have to do that separately. Does your CBC have the signature from the Division Officer (I think you have to request it). If so, you can send it into the Dept of State in D.C. to get it apostilled. If not, I think some states can do it. There is a lot of talk about that here on the boards.

I wish I knew more about the apostille of the diplomas before going there. All I know so far is that I should prepare copies of the diplomas. I wonder if there is a fee, and if I should prepare money orders. Couldn't there be one website that just explains all of this stuff for us teachers? I mean, don't we deserve clear instructions?

The instructions are there, you just have to take the time to find them.

I LITERALLY found the instructions for getting an apostille on a document in California in under 5 seconds. FIVE.

http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/notary/authentication.htm

Now imagine how much you could accomplish if you took the time to find what you were looking for, instead of coming here and asking things to be handed to you.

You know, it's not the first time someone was rude to me here at Dave's. I guess some people enjoy being rude. I think I was making a valid suggestion. Why not put all of the information somewhere in one place easy to find with better organization, instead of browsing through all of these comments and then being insulted? Anyone can Google something in seconds, marsasshole. After googling, we then have to read and think, the latter being something you obviously don't do a lot. Educated people don't insult people on message boards, so I think I know your kind. No need to reply, marsasshole.
Anyway, I was thinking of something like Wikipedia where all of the nonsense is conveniently filtered out.

So what is the latest on renewing a contract with the same school. Last time I got an extension (September) I didn't need the verified degree but I think they said I would need it next time.

My school just informed us that anyone wanting to re-sign MUST:

* have FBI or RCMP check
* have degree and criminal check apostilled

I've scanned everywhere on the Internet and in this forum looking for this information, so I apologize if my question is redundant.

For a summer or winter camp job, will a livescan of my fingerprints suffice for the FBI background check?

Thanks so much for your time in advance.

Hi everyone
I've been offered a job at a hagwon in Dongtan and am now ready to send over all my docs. However, I am confused as to what is required by immigration re my degree. I was originally told immi no longer accepted degree certs and you had to give an original apostilled letter from your uni verifying your degree. I have this. I also had an apostilled copy of my original degree cert which I sent to EPIK (I was rejected) and they havn't returned. The director of the hagwon I am going to seems to think that I still need the copy of degree cert for immigration, but I think she may be misinformed. She is going to double check. I just don't want to have to pay for another apostille stamp considering how much I've spent and been messed about over the last few months. Below is a copy and paste from an email I received from a recruiter last year, can someone please confirm if my apostilled university letter is sufficient for immigration! Thanks

The visa documents we require if planning on starting work after 1st September 2010 are as follows:

1. Copy of your passport
2. From September 1st on, Korean Immigration will no longer require or accept Original Degree scrolls/certificates. Instead you must send one of these following options;
1. University letter verifying your degree with Apostille Stamp (letter of intention to graduate will not be accepted, you must have gradated), or
2. If youre a Canadian, you need to submit your University Letter to the Korean embassy for notarization/authentication instead of an Apostille Stamp
3. 4 Colour passport photos
4. Medical History form (Attached with this email)
5. Police Check + Apostille stamp (Please ensure it has an Apostille stamp on it / for Canadians please get it notarized/authenticated by the Korean Embassy)

If you have any problems with any of these documents, please let me know. There is further information on our website and the attachments to this email.

A few notes on my process organizing my documents. Thankfully, I've had family back in the states to help.

For the FBI background check, I got my prints done here in Korea. Used my home address in the states to send them in, got them back fine. It's been getting them Apostilled that is difficult. State governments wont Apostille a FBI check, I was told the only the Federal Government can do that, so I'm having it done, but it is a process that will take some time. Thankfully we don't need them until January 1st, 2012 or have I herd wrong? You can see this link too.

http://populargusts.blogspot.com/2010/12/new-e-2-visa-regulations-will-be-put-in.html

As for the Apostille stamps on my degrees, the way the information was given to me was that I need a copy of my original degree Apostilled. Not good enough for my home state. Without the university's seal on the copies, they wouldn't do it. So I had to mail my originals backhome, then have family take them to my University with a letter stating they have permission to recieve copies of my originals with the unviersity's seal. Then back to the state capital to get them Apostilled and sent back to me.

On top of it all, there is a new urine and blood work to be done for the 2012 renewal my school has told me.

That's a lot hoops to jump through.

On the visa registration form it asks for your national identification number, what is that in reference to? SIN number? A number on your driver license/photo ID?(canadian here)

Can anybody report how long it took the US State Department to put an apostille on their FBI CBC?

I sent mine to the US State Department five weeks ago and they still haven't sent it back or even cashed my check! I'm beginning to think that they've lost my CBC. If so, that would be disastrous because I start my job in April and there's absolutely no way I could get another CBC and get it authenticated in time.
