It has been a couple weeks, I guess we were due.

I've travelled extensively in Europe, the USA, Canada, Asia and Australia. I'm sorry, but there are just certain places I just have no interest in going to or knowing anything about. For example, I never want to go to Indiana, Swindon, Saskatoon, Singapore or Melbourne. Life is relatively short and you can't go everywhere. So, sorry, but Daegu is definitely on my "don't go" list. Live with it.

So since you haven't been, you are in effect admitting you are ignorant about it.

Singapore is awesome. Including it on your list is working against you.

Im in the EPIk program, and I think I will be placed in either Incheon or Deagu.

Just curious, for a young single guy, which is the best city overall to live in.

Transportation is important, Things to do, and a descent amount of foreigners.

Anybody have any experience with these cities?

From the little you've posted about what you like there are a half dozen cities that would fit that bill (Incheon, Busan, Deagu, Daejeon, Kwangju, Seoul) and a fair number of smaller cities as well that are cool as heck, have a thriving foreigner community as well (Ulsan, Pohang, etc.).

Daegu is a huge city (2.75 mil) about the same number of people (maybe a wee bit bigger possibly) as Incheon. Has a number of foreigners as well. Saying Incheon is better because its closer to Seoul, the biggest city in the USA is akin to saying a city outside of NYC is better than Chicago or LA or Dallas because its close to the biggest city in America.

You may often find better friends and a closely knitted foreign community in Daegu possibly.

From the little you've offered, you'd thrive in both. I'd look at the job and go from there. Seoul is great. It really is but some people go on about the things in it like museums and places of interest and couldn't find them if their life depended on it because they're doing the bar and club crawl in Itaewon and Hongdae every weekend. There are people who brag about NYC but have never set foot in most of the places tourists have covered in a week.

A single guy can have a great time in either city.

I've always thought that Cohiba's rule worked best for 22 y/o newbies, fresh off the boat, who cant stand the thought of going any place besides Itaewon or Hongdae for a fun time.

Cohiba's Rule doesnt seem to apply to my friends who dont live anywhere near Seoul yet they're having a great time in Korea.

A great friend of mine wrote this. It is GOSPEL. Incheon is closer

"Cohiba's Rule"

Think twice before you live outside of Seoul. "In Seoul" and
"outside of Seoul" are like two different countries. Seoul
is an interesting place with variety and venues for most
tastes. Outside of Seoul you will find a homogeneous Korean
culture. I don't mean this in a bad way, but you will never
find things like: French, Greek, Indian or any other ethnic
foods. Markets that sell sherry, pate, pastrami, ricotta cheese.
Specialty shops that sell Cuban cigars, European pies, cold
cuts or rye breads. Just to name a few things. Also clubs such
as photography, drama, public speaking, sailing are 99% in
the capital city. If you want to experiment with a very Korean
culture, which unfortunately means "closed", then choose the
countryside. If you want to make money and have the lifestyle
choices similar to a western country, then there is no other
choice than Seoul.

The FFF RULE: FFF=Fun For Foreigners.

If FFF in Seoul = 100, then FFF decreases at
1/distance. So 2km from Seoul FFF=1/2(100)=50;
10km from Seoul FFF=1/10(100)=10. This rule is
a rule for nightlife, food and foreign products only.
Nature etc. is on a different scale altogether.

This means you will be wasting a lot of time commuting
to Seoul. This is especially a drag if you have been
boozing on a Friday night and there are no buses or
trains.

I, unfortunately, live near Seoul where the FFF factor
is almost in the negative range. I know!

What you have above you is a load of crap. Maybe so if it was written ten years ago. Gu is great. People come back. In fact, I know more people who have come back here from Seoul than moved to Seoul and stayed. And for the most part, the ones that stayed were whinners, so it all works out in the end I guess.

You want to move to Korea and feel like you are living in Toronto, by all means, follow Harry Potter's theory above. You want to move to Korea and feel like you are living in Korea, stay away from Seoul.

I was riding the bus thru Daegu today and thinking how much theyve cleaned up the city and how nice it looks. Really chill vibe. I mean, if you need clubs like Hongdae, downtown has a bunch of clubs, the have club night, and the daegu girls are cute and speak English just like Hongdae. If you need Itaewon, well, you could just roll around in a dirty sewer, I guess.

Daegu is cool.
