Am I correct in assuming that If I'm using a recruiting agency to find a public school position that I will be dealing directly with the school and not EPIK since the deadline has long since past?

I know if EPIK receives duplicate applications you are automatically disqualified.

With that in mind, would it be wise to use multiple recruiters for finding a public school position?

You will be dealing directly with the recruiter (though some schools may opt to interview you).

NO! That would not be wise. If you are applying for public schools, use one recruiter.

If I'm not dealing with EPIK why wouldn't I use more than one recruiter?

I'm still confused. Sorry.

Because they are still dealing with EPIK.

If you are using a recruiter and going to a PS directly (not through EPIK) it is one thing - use many

BUT
IF you are using a recruiter to get into EPIK then use one or you may be disqualified.

Use another to try for GEPIK as well (they are different).

Thanks. I will ask my recruiter if they are dealing directly with a public school or EPIK.

Also, my recruiter also mentioned that since all my documents are ready to go he might be able to fit me into GEPIK as there are a few remaining positions that will need to be filled.

Thanks for the help.

Dude, the recruiter is sending your info to multiple schools. And he/she has access to about any kind of school in Korea: hagwon or public school (EPIK, GEPIK, SMOE). So if you want to apply for a school under a different program (like GEPIK or SMOE), you can. But GEPIK and SMOE are separtate applications.

I guess if ttompatz says it's ok to use many recuiters if they're applying directly to the schools (and not through EPIK), that's fine. I'm just not sure it's necessary.

But yeah, ask your recruiter which s/he's doing.

Maybe it was much ado about nothing that I used one recruiter to get into the public school system. I'm pretty sure he was applying directly to schools.

Yes, I'm only using one recruiter now anyway, as the other never made contact with me.

How long did it take you to get an interview?

Um, got an interview in about a week. They were going to hire me, but they lost their funding for a NT.

I slipped through the hands of four or five other schools before landing the one I'm working at now. None of these other schools interviewed me. It was only that first one. Not all schools will opt to interview you.

From the time I submitted my materials to the recruiter to the time I got hired took about 4 months. But I was particular about my location (near Seoul) and working for a public school.

Had I been more open to being placed anywhere in Korea and willing to work for a hagwon, I probably would have been placed faster.

I imagine you're aware that the three public school programs (SMOE, GEPIK, and EPIK) cover separate areas in Korea, right? SMOE is in Seoul, GEPIK covers Gyeonggi (the province surounding Seoul), and EPIK covers the rest of Korea.

If it's taking a while, I wouldn't worry too much. It'a school's market right now. With all the foreigners running over here, the schools can be choosey. Just be patient and stay in contact with your recruiter.

Hi, I've only been in contact with the recruiter for 3 days now. I told them I have absolutely no preference for my work location.

The only stipulation I gave them was that I wanted a PS job. So, I'm hoping for the best.

That should help. Public schools are still a narrow sector compared to hagwons but worth holding out for, I think. My stipilation was also public schools.

Something to consider also, I think GEPIK (even though it covers a smaller geographic area) is actually a bigger program than EPIK. If you're able to submit an application to your recruiter for GEPIK (without needing to send additional copies of apostilled diploma and letters of recommendation), then that might help you out too.

But you've just been at this three days, so just be patient. Again, stay in contact with your recruiter.

Good luck to you!
