Thanks for the thread bump! I was thinking of heading to Goa myself for beach and relaxation time in late Feb., then somewhere else in India, maybe Uttar Pradesh. Anyone try out diving in Goa?

I highly recommend Sri Lanka and its beaches - seemingly endless white sands, clear blue ocean and no crowds. Got hassled far less than India. I'd love to go back some time and explore more of the country, but my curiosity demands I try somewhere new.

What kind of tourists were in Sri Lanka? I was just viewing a newspaper article, and #1 and #2 were Indian and British. Did you see much of anyone else?

Also, from everything I know of Goa, pretty much ALL the Indian people go to the beach in FULL ATTIRE...all their clothes on....swimming, wading into the water, and generally not doing much of at all at the beach that most people go there for.

Was it like that in Sri Lanka?

(While there is a lot to see in either Goa or Sri Lanka, I know, but kind of curious about 'beach culture' or lack thereof of one as well.

In Goa in 2005, I didn't see a beach culture, but lots of brits. Goans are IMO pretty ugly compared to most other parts of India. Rajasan is good for tours, but if you want to chill on a beach, then Goa is good. Buff up for the summer and meet foreigners there.

I do recall you spent a lot of time in India. I always got the impression you quite enjoyed it as well.

Brits at the beach. That doesn't sound like fun. Regarding Goans and not so pretty...I think I've heard that about all of India. On the other hand, while I've never been to India, I've seen a lot of very attractive Indian women everywhere else.

Lastly, summer is still in season for Goa? I don't know myself, but I got the impression that winter was beach season, but maybe it's just because thats when all the Brits/Europeans go on vacation there.

Speaking of that, I also read a lot of Central Asians/Russians head down to GOA these days for holidays? True?

Good to hear from you Tiger B Very Happy

Brits are fun anywhere. So chatty and happy ! Great tourists.

As for Goans, even the Indians say that they are fairly ugly, and I love Indian gals!!! Some of the best in Asia for sure, but yep Goan girls at the beach aren't that great.

I do remember missing Indian gals when I was in China. Their curves and their great exotic looks mmm.

I went in the winter time, but summer would be fairly hot there. Didn't see any Eastern Europeans/Central Asians.

Mostly Europeans (Germans, French, Scandinavians).

Loads of Isrealis in Goa, mostly young and out of the army. I would say keep out of the way of these folks if you want to keep your sanity but I don't how that would be possible. Lot's of Russians there as well and Aussies! (Of course!) Laughing
