So I don't have access to a korean keyboard at the moment and have a very slow net connection. I was hoping people could post links to and/or state their current internet plans here.

How fast? How expensive? limited/unlimited? etc.

Need it for research.

Thanks

Rates are pretty standard:
10mbps for about 15k (cable packages)
100mbps for about 35k (KT, SK, others - vdsl)
1000mbps for about 60k. (FTTH (fiber to home - not available in all locations)).

There are no bandwidth limits. The pipe is yours, use it or lose it.

You get a discount if you sign up for a contract. The longer the contract, the cheaper it gets.

Also, getting a service bundle from the same provider may get you a discount. Example, if you have an SK phone and decide to sign up for internet with them as well.

Thanks for running down this information... Are there different providers over there such as in the states? Or is it pretty standard if you want cable there's one person to go through...

It varies a bit depending on where you are (SK and KT are national and cable companies with TV/internet packages are local) but the rates for similar packages are all similar in price (within 5k won).

At any rate, you will have MORE bandwidth (no throttles if you are into downloading and/or streaming video) and lower prices than you ever had in the states.

Hook-ups usually take 1-2 business days from application (by phone) to up-and-running.

Should I just refer to you as Korean Experience Encyclopedia or will ttompatz just do for right now? Thank you for your wealth of knowledge and your experience filled demeanor in the way that you share it...

I live in a rural area and use SK. They run fiber into the home and I only pay 15k a month. I signed up for a 3 year contract, but I was told by the SK guy I could break that with no consequences.

Best things about internet in SK are no throttling and no caps.
