| FLI. Not a university position in any way, shape or form. Again, I was speaking of the reputation of the institution, not how they pay or treat the staff. Why are people unable to separate these ideas? You can give me any facts you like, but it won't change the fact that the SKY unis are the most reputable. |
Agreed. And it's not only their reputation, it's their pay as well. I'm pretty sure that tons of peopel woulndn't be vying for one job if the pay was not too good. |

Anyway... I have another job offer- actually I signed the contract already- that is paying more per month (though the uni job pays pretty well- 3.0, but no housing or severance, compared with 3.1 and no housing, but severance). . |
I'm sorry, but was this part (in bold) overlooked by everyone? No housing and no severnce? Is this standard for university jobs?
That first one is already a dealbreaker for me. |

I thought places HAD to provide severance. NO housing is doable, but I'd like to have severance. |

A monthly stipend is typically provided and one can usually take a dorm room for a small monthly deduction. Overlooked in this thread perhaps, but fairly well-known to most. |

SKY schools don't always the best contracts.
I've seen some pretty bad, in fact some of the worst, contracts from SNU and Yonsei. |

Ask just in case, my uni doesn't provide housing, a stipend, or key money. |

I think it depends on the university. One friend of mine told me that the hiring committee were to simply look at the photos and pull out the best looking unmarried ones that they could find.
Each university is different, I guess. |

Some universities, especially the private ones have their own pension so they can give it with your monthly salary or at the end of the year contract. It would be specified in your contract. One place I worked at did this. I have no problem with it; either way you are getting the extra month's pay. |

A few years back a friend of mine was working in SNU. She said the arrogance there was unbelievable and the pay was 2.0. This is a good few years back.
Basically they can pay less 'cas of the name and some people will always follow the name. I heard that Yonsei was decent enough in pay, especially in the second campus. |

That is the information I have also - even the salary.
The Chair of the program I spoke with was arrogant. This isn't unusual, though, for professors in top schools to behave this way in Korea or Japan. I don't quite get it myself but since folks over here are so sensitive about this kind of thing, the profs doing the hiring know they can use it as clout over people - and many of them do.
I'd rather work at a low ranked school and be treated right than at a top school like those in the SKY group and be treated unfairly with a low-ball salary. No big deal, why would I care about the rep of the school; I'm not the one graduating? I'm just looking for the best working conditions I can find. |

At Yonsei, the pay and conditions are much much better at the main Seoul campus. |
