So I will be arriving in Korea in a couple of weeks. I currently need a couple of fillings, not in any major pain or anything but I know I need to get them sorted in the future. At home they would cost about 60euro per filling, which is steep. Would I be better off waiting until I arrive in Korea to get them sorted, or have them done at home before I come?

Also I understand that simple dental work like fillings is cheaper under the health insurance scheme. Do you have to be paying into the scheme for a minimum time limit (say 3 months) before you can avail of it or anything.

Thanks for any info.

You can't be enrolled into the scheme until you have your ARC (and in many hagwans will never happen in spite of what the contract says).

After you are enrolled you are entitled to basic dental services (like fillings) at any government hospital and the cost is about 3500 won per filling.

If you want to go to a private dentist it will cost more (but still less than 60 Euros each unless you are getting a root canal done.)

Are you able to get fillings done with composite material (white) at a price that's low like that? I don't think I'm all that interested in silver or gold fillings.

Usually amalgam but composites are not that much more expensive. I think I paid 10k each for 2 of them.

are you working for a hagwon or a PS? My hagwon owner decided it was best not to have medical once I arrived.

It will be PS through EPIK. That all sounds excellent. So how long after arriving is one likely to recieve their ARC?

There is some variation between schools (they have to send you for your medical and then to K-immi to apply for your ARC).

It usually occurs within the first month and MUST (by law) be done before you hit your 90 day mark.
