|
|
Is it still possible to get a job offer if you answer "no" on any part of the EPIK application that is testing your willingness to be flexible?
For example, I would very much prefer not to commute 60 minutes to school. There's a yes/no question on this (question13-9). If I answer "no" will they throw out my application? |

Only if they have too many applications.
It may, however, get it placed at the bottom of the pile.

Unless you're desperate for a job, I'd say be honest,. If you really won't take the job if you have to commute 60 minutes, then mark "no". I think the question is specific enough that they're not testing you with it and really want to know the answer. |

If you have the right 'look' it won't matter. |

Thanks for the feedback, folks. I spoke with my recruiter, who basically told me that I should answer yes for the sake of not getting sidelined, but that he'd only put me in for interviews at the specific schools I was interested in. I'm trusting him that it won't put me in jeopardy of being out in the middle of nowhere with a 10 mile walk to my school. |

Rule #1: do not trust or put any faith in your recruiter. |

I wouldn't be so naive and trust my recruiter like that, he just wants his comission. He'll place you in some rural school and when you raise a fuss he'll say there was a "misunderstanding"and he'll blame it on EPIK, and then if you run away and quit or whatever, he'll tell EPIK that you had agreed to it and that you had answered yes on your application. |

I have been reading a lot of the posts on here and now I have taken the step and joined, I hope I don't get flamed too much. I think through reading through the posts on here - I won't be admitting to anyone about my depression. Mind you, by reading the posts on here, my depression is about to get a lot worse just by working in Korea! |

Get your application in early and commuting isn't an issue. Put your preference for all metro, avoid rural. Make sure you get your docs in early too. This will secure you a spot somewhere in a city, and thus likely a short commute.
My commute is a simple 15 minute walk! I could take the bus, but why bother? Sometimes waiting for the bus is longer than it would take to just walk it. |

What if I want to be in a rural posting? From the way some people talk here, it seems like that guarantees me a long commute. Is there some reason that they would provide accommodations far from the school site if I'm in a small town in the middle of nowhere?[/b] |
