School vacation time you are required to teach up to 20 hours per week. Anything more is OT. But are required to be there 8:40-4:40 regardless. They are contractually required to allow you to use all your vacation days.
You are supposed to submit vacation days 15 days in advance. (I think)
When is your contract over? How many vacation days do you have left? If your contract is over before the summer. This is the last vacation available for you to use your days. So they might have to let you use them. But if you waited too long to submit your request, they might have an out there. |

I'm done at the end of February. I said I didn't care about having vacation after winter camp, that I wanted to use them during February vacation. I was told that I had to use my vacation days during winter (January -> February 4th), and that the camp was happening because I had to think about the students (or something to that regard).
The school doesn't provide much money for camps and has four period long classes, so it tends to be just babysitting.
I did use vacation days in January, but I still have many vacation days remaining. |
you're being reamed.
and royally so, I may add.
you've done 3 week of summer camp, you've done 3 weeks of winter camp.
you're confusing when you say you didn't care about vacation in Feb, yet you wanted to use your remaining vacation in Feb. Which is it?
If you have at least a week of paid vacation left, use it and tell them you need to think of your "health", since it's no concern of theirs. |

contractually speaking, paid leave can be taken anytime school is NOT in session, which would include spring vacation would it not? (this would include the additional vacation time you earned by renewing)
why are you dumb enough not to use your vacation days? what benefit will you get for not using them? you're learning your lesson the hard way.
btw. when you renew with your school, your additional vacation time is as of next contract date start, not added on to the end of your first contract but I suspect you already knew this, but for whatever reason didn't take your days.
they may squeeze you on the "home study" they gave you in Jan? how many days did that include? if not enough to cover your left over vacation time you're getting screwed. plain and simple.
clearly the smartest person in your school is your co teacher who will be doing "training" in the Philippines. Watch and learn. |

Play the family card. Say you have plans to visit your grandfather for his 80th birthday. |

Your school told you when you could take your vacation. You didnt. Instead you figured you could sit at home on paid home-study leave during school downtime & then dictate to them when you'd take your vacation, camp be damned.
Trouble mustering much sympathy here. |

Lying about family is weak. |

As a last resort, of course. |

hop off your super high horse for a moment, Korean cowboy.
the "spring vacation" is equally much "downtime" as the "winter vacation".
what I don't quite understand is where the guy took any vacation at all.
if he taught 3 weeks of summer camps, he had only 1 week available for vacation in the summer, as total downtime was 4 weeks.
if he taught 3 weeks of winter camps, he had 2 weeks available for vacation during winter vacation, as total downtime was 5 weeks.
which means he could've only taken not much more than 3 weeks total of vacation, excluding the spring vacation period.
He probably has at least 4 mandated by contract PLUS an additional 2 weeks for working at that same school for the 2nd year (he suggested he renewed)
WHERE did his other vacation time go, wiseguy???
(this question applies to the OP as well?)
where the hell did your vacation times go and are you math deficient in figuring out where/when it can be spaced in.
because if the facts as thus far stated are true, something isn't making any sense here at all.
and if your school told you all vacation must be taken during summer/winter period, they over allocated the amount of camps given and effectively took your vacation away.
i guess basic math was never a forte of American college graduates. |

Lets assume the OP can do his own math. |

Looks like the topic didn't go OP's way and now he's trying to hide it. |
