Has anyone heard of any stories about foreigners getting caught downloading movies and stuff?

I've heard they have campaign out to crack down on said acts. Does their authority only pertain to Korean software/music/movies?

I have heard of people getting warned by their IP for downloading. There are plenty of ways around it though.

It's crazy how brainwashed Koreans are when it comes to this sort of thing. If you ask them whether or not they download movies/music/games etc, they always say they don't do it or they try really hard not to do it because it's a bad thing, it's wrong, it's "not Christian", etc.

That being said, maybe the brainwashing has worked so well that they don't need to bother enforcing it. I know people who do nothing but download stuff illegally online and they haven't got in trouble for it.

I thought that's the kind of pirating the OP was asking about. Haha.

Most of you will be sent down to the Burakumin village where you will subsist on tanning hides.

However, one of you will be taken into the fold and help the governor of Jeolla do in his struggle against the lords of Gyeonsang do, who have taken control of the Blue House. You will teach them advanced sailing techniques, learn their language, and fall in love with a Christian woman who will eventually let ninjas kill her with a door-bomb.

Then they will burn your ship!!!!!!!

Pirating in Korea? Have you ever been to Yongsan where there is a sea of pirated movies and games being sold to people? If anything were to happen those people would be hit first. Not only are they pirating, they are profitting from it.

Do like the captured Somali pirates did. Say you like Korean food. You're bound to get leniency.

Not only that but there are also hundreds of websites that will let you download movies (often pirated) for a small fee (e.g. 200 to 1500 Won). I think that almost all of the Koreans that I know download pirated movies and they're quite open about it. The ones who don't download are either too old to know how or care or they just aren't interested in watching movies.

The strange thing is that very few Koreans seem to know about torrents. They all seem to be direct downloading from websites. Some seemed amazed that you can get new movies and TV shows via torrent - for free.
