| Actually the same buddy who lent me his machine has a borrowed copy of God of War 3 which he bought in Canada so all is good as it's obviously all in English. 99% percent of the time I thought PS3 games were all region free and in English, no? I had heard only Final Fantasy series was in Japanese. Oh well nice to know....... |
The games are region-free, but that doesn't necessarily mean English. I have games I've gotten both here, and sent from the US (mostly ones unavailable in Korea, such as Madden, or Rock Band)
That said, out of a rather sizable collection, I've only had 3 games not be in English: God of War 3, Final Fantasy XIII and Quantum of Solace (based on the Bond movie). |

top exclusives in my book, some mentioned already:
1) demon's souls - game of the generation so far, would never part with it. I have to fight myself to not put the disc back in and play more because I have a lot of other games to get through first!
2) uncharteds - both 1 and 2 are excellent, 2 is more polished and everything.
3) wipeout HD - it's a PSN only title, but it's also the reason I bought my ps3 instead of a 360 and I do not regret it at all.
4) ratchet & clank: a crack in time - the R&C series is something I largely ignored until this game, and it made me sad I had done so.
5) metal gear solid 4 - sure the story can be a bit "WHAT?!" at times, but it's so engaging and really well-paced when you're playing.
6) god of war 3 - not my favorite of action games, but it's well-done.
7) valkyria chronicles - SRPG done to perfection. what more do you want?
more psn titles go here because if you're just borrowing it, you probably won't buy these but Joe Danger, Dead Nation, and Soldner-X2 are all compelling reasons to drop some dough on a psn card. maybe your friend can reimburse you, since these games aren't expensive and they are super great. |

| Thanks for the suggestions. From just the short time I have played it I can envision myself actually buying a PS3 once I give his back. I haven't wired it up yet to check out the PSN network but perhaps I will. |

How about online play? I have yet to try it but heard that compared to Xbox live it falls a bit short. Any opinions on this? Just curious....
I don't mean a specific game, I just mean in general terms comparing the PSN network to Xbox live. |

From what I've seen, in random online play, you typically get matched with someone from the US, and the latency is horrible. You get crushed.
I haven't tried it with someone here.
Of course, here you also have the issue that certain games' online play is inaccessible because the maker is combating second hand sales by making online play require an included code and if someone has used it already, you need to buy a new one.
...which is also the case if you can't use the code because you don't have a Korean PSN account.
(BTW, if you ever get Street Fighter IV, do not turn on the option for getting online play invites. You will be unable to play the single player game due to constantly receiving invites.) |

i play bad company 2 online all the time. i dont have an xbox so i can't compare. it is free and xbox charges (and people pay it so it must be pretty good).
uncharted 2's online is pretty fun too...so i guess that counts as exclusive online play.
just downloaded the killzone 3 online beta. it's OK, got my ass kicked though. |

haha, yeah. I wouldn't play with anyone who isn't a competent gamer. game is crazy fun though, right? I bought the DLC but haven't had a chance to really play it yet. |

| I remember that Heavy Rain had some DLC after, think it was some back story to the reporter. Has anyone played it? From the sounds of it it's pretty hard to get DLC without a Korean PSN. |

re: DLC, there is no problem downloading DLC and using an American PSN account, EXCEPT for a few games where DLC is region locked. As in, if you have a Korean copy of the game, American DLC won't work for it. This has been the exception rather than the rule from what I have seen.
And, yes, online codes for goodies do require you to purchase certain games new to fully enjoy the multiplayer. But, again, seems to be the exception rather than the rule. |

Actually, let me clarify on DLC.
If you're like me, you'll use an American account for PSN access. By doing so, you'll be able to access the American PlayStation Store and have no issues with downloading anything from there (except for what the above post points out), even if you bought your PS3 here. Basically, it will think it's an American PS3.
The issue comes in when you buy certain games here that include DLC codes (sometimes even including a code to access online features). These codes are for Korean region and attempting to enter them into an American account just results in an invalid code error.
You either end up having to live without this free DLC, or finding a Korean friend who will create an account for you. You can easily just switch to the Korean account, enter the DLC codes, then switch back to your US account to play. As long as the content is downloaded, the game doesn't care what account you're on. |

Or just research. I made it a point to buy Bad company 2 from Amazon to make sure it was the US version and the online codes would work. without those codes (giving me a ton of maps and Battlefield 1943), the value of the game would've been halved.
I could see being frustrated, but it's kind of like buying Halo 3 or God of War 3 in Korean. You either deal with it or make sure you get yourself an English version. |

| Yeah I will probably get Little Big Planet 2 after I finish number 1. I've heard it's a very unique game. Got up early today and played some of Uncharted and then God of War 3. |

If you like coop play,
I suggest the PSN games Pixeljunk Monsters and Pixeljunk Shooter
Uncharted 2 is the best game I've yet played on the system, one is also very good. |
