I know schools will fly you to Japan and pay for or at least, reimburse you for the cost of getting a Visa.
But does this also apply to the cost of getting the criminal background check or diploma apstilled? That's going to be quite expensive. It'd be nice if I didn't have to come out of pocket for it. |

you want the job, you pay for the background check. They are already paying to fly you out here and home again, pay your accomodation, pension, insurance, and wages.
Unless of course you are already here and you need the background check to re-sign for your school. If that's the case, just ask them. |

I have NEVER known a school to pay for the visa or initial paperwork required to get a visa. That is not to say that is hasn't happened but I am not aware of any. Some hagwans used to pay for the flight and give 200k won for your travel expenses on a visa run to Japan (and that was usually enough to pay for the visa too).
Typically and as a general rule:
YOU pay for the CRC, notarizations, apostilles and visa.
They pay for the flight over (or the flight/hotel travel expenses for your visa run to Japan), housing from the time you land and sometimes provide a ride from the airport to your new home/school.
