I'm surprised to see that more unis are scrambling for teachers this time of year. Maybe they're better organised. I've seen a couple of adverts up, but nothing too good. There's been one posted that pay 1.8 mil, great.

I feel bad, Embarassed I told a friend that lots of jobs could be had last minute. Maybe she'll have to wait until Sept.

I'm sure something will turn up. It just takes time. Is your friend in Korea? Is so then they will have a better chance when the call at the eleventh hour comes.

No, she's in Mexico. Maybe she'll have better luck in the fall.

Hmm probably I guess. Well it wouldn't be long before the new batch of job postings start up for fall again. Then again you never know. A university/college might be desperate. Also if there is a position for low-pay it's not such a bad idea to take it, just to get in the door.

Not all that surprising considering the bolded part of your post...

These jobs are usually still around this late in the hiring season.

I think given that Lunar New Year took up pretty much all of last week, it will be another week or so before you see the last minute university jobs posted. The closer to the start of the school year, the more likely someone will pull out or find out they can't get a visa.

If your friend doesn't care about being in Seoul there are a few universities just south of here that probably will be looking. They were having a hard time getting teachers. One is in Cheonan and the other is in Daejeon and both are Christian universities. Then again if she's picky, she's probably not going to have much of a chance this late in the game and will need to wait until the fall. Also keep in mind that many of the universities will only interview candidates in the country.

So, do universities hire for fall starts? I thought they started in March. This is good news for me, my contract ends near the begining of October, although I'm not at all certain that the kind of uni job somebody who's *working* on an MA can get is better than my cushy middle school job in Gyeonggi...

I always start job searches at least 4 months in advance (sometimes up to 6 months). I don't want to work for disorganized places that hire last-minute anyway. Give me the places that have their [Mod Edit] together.

I tried that...doesn't work too well...

Recently was offered a UNi position outside Seoul and have an interview with a company placing teachers in Seoul Unis soon.

And I have only a BA.....I think Korean's job market is on the upswing...I'm getting job offers like rain.

I'd take a 1.8 university job over a 3.0 kindergarten or elementary any day of the week.
