I have stuff sent from America every once and a while. Before things would take a week or two.

The latest one, a Christmas gift, still hasn't arrived.

Anyone else experiencing delays with receiving packages from abroad?

Huge snow storms across the country are making it difficult for air freight.

My Christmas gift from my best friend didn't come through, but she sent cheese. My cheese parcels have always gotten through before, but they must have caught this one.

Also, the Christmas gift from my ex was opened and most of the items stolen.

I hope you get it!

Did you get a notice about your cheese parcel?

And why would someone steal items from your shipment, then send the remaining items to you?

I got no notice.

As for the stolen items, it's the second time it's happened, and both parcels in question had nothing contraband, and both were from my ex.

Might be the backlog from Seollal. Didn't have a tracking number for it? First Class international is cheaper but untrackable. Always pay more for Priority if it's important stuff.

The OP said it was for Christmas, so it's well over a month late.

As far I as I know cheese never goes by mail and it will get seized. Korea has different regulations on animal products and it is as we all know HIGHLY restrictive. Also rules on imports may apply on Monday that won't apply on Tuesday, ie) no continuity or logic.

Sorry. I imported a headphone amplifier (portable) for my ipod touch and the shipment was delayed because according to customs it was worth more than declared, (ie it competes with our woorinara overpiced domestic HIFI industry). I kindly explained that the amp in question is called a JDS CMoy MKII worth ~$40-45. Korean trade goes one way just like NFTA for Canada. What a bunch of protectionist nutjobs!

lately Korea has clamped down on all private packages coming from outside the country. This started as early as Chuseok (for me). Must be a new Postmaster General

I know that cheese is supposed to get seized. That doesn't really bother me when it happens (and this was the first time in many shipments. It did help that the friend sending it is Korean Wink). What bothered me were the 2 shipments from my ex, where absolutely nothing was contraband.

They stole my Christmas gifts in the more recent one. Someone ended up getting a penguin-shaped hot water bottle, 2 rat toys (for my pets), a fingertip brush for grooming them in a way that they wouldn't notice (rather than a larger, standard pet brush), and the Christmas card. They left the 2 sleeping bag/carriers for the little guys and nothing else. I'm glad they left those, because I needed it last week when I had to take one of my 2 little guys into the vet, but you'd have thought they'd see 2 purse-looking things and steal THOSE, not the climbing toys and comb!

In the parcel before, they stole some hermetically sealed chocolates for me and some candies I'd wanted for the kids. They'd left the ferret bed that I'd wanted for my rats.

The Christmas thievery really got to me. Who steals pet toys, a hot water bottle, and a card? Someone's kids got some cool gifts for their rabbit or whatever animals, as well as my hot water bottle.

@NYCGal - At least it wasn't expensive technology or jewellery!

I hear you! I've had jewelry sent, and it came through. It's just some weird stuff that they took. Was there really any need to steal the card as well?

Ah well. I've built some cool cardboard houses for the little guys. Ever other week, I take 2 boxes home from Homeplus and construct a fun 2-level playhouse with a ladder and windows. They love it. I try to change it up a bit, to make it interesting. A rock here, a rope there. It's all about enrichment.

Still, that hot water bottle was for me.

Yes, packages both to me and and packages from the USA are taking much longer to arrive. It's probably the weather.
