|
|
Soon I will be changing jobs (finishing the current contract, going to a new school). My current boss agreed to a letter of release so I can transfer the visa.
However, I just realized that my passport expires before the end of my new contract (just by a few weeks). I haven't signed the new contract yet, I will sign this week. Therefore, we haven't applied for the extension yet.
I'm wondering if this will cause problems; I'm assuming it does. I just remembered about my passport expiring. What kind of trouble am I getting into. How fast do I need to move if I need to do something immediately? Ttompatz where are you?
Thanks everyone. |

You can get a new visa PROVIDED you have a minimum of 6 months validity on your passport.
The problem arises in that they may only issue/extend your ARC for the duration of your passport. This means you have to go through the hassle of a visa extension (again) so you can finish your contract (or forfeit your return airfare, severance, last months salary and possibly a deposit).
Depending on where you are from, a new passport application only takes 14-30 days. (3 weeks for Canadians)
