Yeah. I mean I love my K-Pop and all, and I really like my K-Indie (which could have niche global appeal) but at the level of anime? Please.
K-Film would certainly have a better chance, though I doubt that will break through either.
70% of people, no matter what country, don't like to get into foreign film or music beyond a few films/bands. America especially. Most people in Europe and Asia seem to do okay with foreign TV shows and movies and watching subtitles. Some North Americans will absolutely flip at subtitles. "Reading is too difficult".

The peculiarly North American phenomenon of associating food quality with "being stuffed" is beyond me. Must be a leftover from the Great Depression or the 50s or SuperSizing or something. |

She probably figures since most Koreans are skinny that nothing they eat will be able to satisfy her |
lol, nice.
I'm pretty sure she just doesn't want to eat anything "weird," so nothing spicy, no seafood, no meat that has bones in it, and nothing she doesn't know how to pronounce. So basically the only Asian dish she will eat consists of just chicken and rice. She also has a bowl cut and wears mom jeans.
I hate picky eaters so much. |

You were sadly mistaken. I work at a U.S. (west coast) office of a Korean company and some of the American employees have never tried Korean food and have no idea what kimchi or bibimbap is. There's one (obese) lady who flat out refuses to try any Asian food besides teriyaki chicken. She's been working there, under various Korean supervisors and managers, for ten years. |
These people are pretty sad. I live in Vancouver - a city with one of the largest Chinese populations in Canada. tons of Chinese restaurants, tons of Japanese restaurants (owned by Chinese ) too. I have Caucasian friends who don't know anything but California rolls and Chicken teriyaki, or don't know what "dim sum" is.
They are weirded out by pretty much anything that isn't your standard N American food.
Going to a Japanese/Chinese AYCE was basically a huge meeting to express "LOL this is weird! Asians are weird!"
Sigh. |

Really, there is nothing wrong with those girls. Knowledge of some American talk show host has little to do with common sense.
That clip was rather pleasant. At least they weren't shrieking or doing other silly things. |
Yeah, I'd say that this is common reaction for most touristy teenage girls, whether they're from Korea or North America.
Cute clip. |

He might have gotten more of a reaction with his Simpson's credits (he was a writer/producer/director for a few seasons) since it's drawn and produced here, as well as shown on TV. Late Night, The Tonight Show, and hie new TBS show are not shown at ALL here, so how would they know him.
I liked his explanation of his relationship with Jolie and the girls reaction, that was fantastic! |

That's what I really like about living in a foreign country. I don't have to listen to the flatulent self-congratulations and self-obsessions that drive the celebrity crazed media back home. Until, of course, I discover that the country I'm living in has its own just as bad version. |

On a related note, I showed my ladyfriend this clip, and she thought it was pretty funny. Liked how Conan actually interacted with the girls in a non-arrogant, understanding way. Didn't know who Conan was, so I explained who he is, what he's done. When I mentioned the Tonight Show and Jay Leno, she KNEW who Leno was. Apparently, he made a series of jokes about Korea (along the lines of how they all eat their pets) and it was picked up by the news here. From what SHE said, a lot of Koreans would know Leno's name because of that, and they are not to keen on him. |

You do realize in that clip he's not in Korea? He just happened to come across some Korean girls in some LA movie theatre. |

I was here when all that happened. It was when the Korean skater was disqualified in an Olympic short-track event and Ono won gold instead. The Korean team was very upset and threatened to leave the Olympics. Leno's joke was, "And boy was that skater mad. He went home and kicked the dog...and then ate it."
Also, it turns out my buddy teaches one or two of those girls at a college here in Seoul. |

Everyone looks dumb when they're out of their depth trying to understand a foreign language. They're trying to be polite while also being embarassed by their lack of english.
The typical korean group-sychronized "oohs" and "aahs" do sound pretty stupid to unaccustomed western ears though. |

LOL this is weird. North Americans are weird. Why would people eat the food they prefer? And why would anyone think eating other food makes them superior? Do you really think traditional food from any culture is available in any other country? Do you think you can get a traditional Chinese meal in North America or Korea? That's absurd. It makes me homesick. I can't wait to go home, walk into a McDonalds and get a good old Bulgogi Burger. |

Judging by their expressions, they understand what he's saying but aren't sure how to react. Some nut came up to them and started babbling about dating Angelina Jolie - should they laugh? It's a joke, right? Maybe not?
I thought it was cute. |
