Hi all,
Thanks for reading....so I am in the process of applying for jobs in Korea and got an email from one of the recruiting agencies I've applied to, offering a position, or at least offering to send my resume on for this particular position. I haven't heard anything about the school, and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it. Again, I have not received a contract, and if I do, I'll post that to the section of the forum appropriate for contract reviews. Until then, though, anyone out there who knows anything about this school or this recruiter? (The info is cut and pasted below) Any advice welcome! Thanks so much!

Right off the bat I can tell you it's a hagwon (after-school academy), not a school. |

It is a Kindergarten hagwan (not a school)
It doesn't name the academy - just the general location (basically they sent you a job listing).
What you have is nothing more than a general location (in a city of 10 million people) and a job listing (classified ad) with little or no detail.
Wait till you get some specifics (assuming a kindy is OK with you) then ask again when you actually know something.

9:50 - 6:50? Those are some really long hours. I once worked at a hakwon where the hours were 10:00 - 6:00, and that job made me feel completely exhausted. My job paid 2.5. But these days, I see really long hours that only offer 2.1. It seems like that's pretty much the norm these days. |

Is working at a Kindergarten what you want? I don't know what most people mean by this is not a "school," because you will be teaching classes, just not at a big public school, but rather to kids to who pay to be there.
I live and work near Gangnam and I think it's a great area. The hours seem pretty standard and if it's your first time out, you aren't going to do much better (give or take an hour) especially if they include an hour break for lunch, etc.
You might as well agree to interview for the job. After you talk to a few hogwan owners/managers you will start to get a better feel for what you are looking for and what a good situation for you is going to be. If you have a good interview follow up with a teacher currently at the school and ask all your questions. Hope that helps! |
