Let's Hike Mighty Dobongsan and then have a tuna party!!

We will start at Mangwolsa Station on line 1. The hike will go to Dobong Peak and back to Dobongsan Station. It should last 4 hours. The hike is not easy but not extreamly hard, most people can do it with no problems. I will have at least 4 guides to help any inexperianced hikers make their way safely. You must have crampons, if you don't have them already you can buy them next to the mountain for 6,000 won or so.

After there is a wonderful Chumchi (TUNA) restaurant in Nowan that treats our club like VIP's. If you love Chumchi then you don't want to miss coming there with our group. The basic cost is 23,000 won for all you can eat, soju and beer is extra. We should give the ladies a little tip for their excellent service.

It's chamchi, not chumchi. But since you don't seem to understand that, you might as well just say tuna.

FYI, there is no 도봉산 peak, just as there is no 북한산 or as some prefer 삼각산 peak.

So far, we've established you don't know where you are going or what you are eating.

I kid (a little). Seriously, have fun.

Trust me, you'll be with people who have hiked this mountain more than 2000 times!!! My ignorance is just in the translation, not in the effort to make everyones day great.

there is no tipping in korea. you don't have to tip the ladies at the chumchi restaurant for their excellent service.

Well I guess I owe thanks to you all for enlightening me to my mistakes. I should be more careful when making posts and make sure I know what I'm talking about.

Interestedinhanguk I never checked the last post about the CHAMCHI party in March so I didn't learn, but thanks. Going on 6 years and I still hadn't figured that out.

Kimchifart That is funny, I learned something new today.

T-J My Korean friend knows my Korean ability and thought it was easier just to tell me Dobong Peak but were hiking to Manjang (dae) bong. It's pretty good, right??

I used all your remarks just now in my advanced free-talking class. They agreed with most of you about the tipping. They believe that when people do tip here in Korea that the person is trying to show off. They also said it was wrong for me to force my guest to tip.

I have gone to this restaurant so many times over the years and the service and the food is beyond the norm. I was there two months ago and the waitress gave me and my friend five of the grilled tuna steaks, so tasty. We run these ladies ragged, beer soju, more of this more of that, normally someone at our table will give the lady 10,000 won, everyone is happy, she's happy, no one loses.

I just wanted people to the know the cost ahead of time. 23,000 plus beer/soju isn't in everyone's budget and if we had 10-20 people show up, what's the big deal of giving her 2-3,000 each. What's done is done I wont mention tipping again.

Tyrobinson Thank you for your support. I have been very lucky with meeting people here in Korea and they've taken me to so many places and I want to go again.
