jobs. I will be sent on a visa run later but school is not what I expected and housing blows. How does one go about looking for another position in this situation? Also have been told I can work for three months with just a visa issuance # but believe that only refers to already having an E2 stamp from a consulate or embassy. |

I think the only option is to wait 90 days, and then the visa issuance number will expire. After that, submit all new paperwork and then get a new visa issuance number.
It's my understanding that since you have the visa issuance number, you would have to get it transferred. I did something similar, but I was between contracts. The new contract period hadn't started yet.
I just did a change of workplace but I also had the E2 visa already. In your case you only have the visa issuance number, and I think you have to wait for it to expire before you can move forward. |

You cannot use your visa confirmation number for any position other than the one it was issued for. (non-transferable).
It will expire in 90 days.
You (through a new employer) can then apply for a new visa confirmation number and do a visa run.
you cannot legally work without an E2.
Working on a visa issuance number can and will get you fined (1-2 million won), and probably get you an exit order (told to leave the country) and possibly (not always) banned from re-entry for 6 months and NOT allowed to return to work for the same employer.
It will also put a black mark in your immigration file requiring you to have a consular interview (in your home country) for EVERY new visa application you make.

As usual Tthompatz is spot on. You can't legally work on a visa issuance number. You're also correct, the three month work period applies to the E2.
Regarding cancelling the visa issuance number:
Last year while in country with a visa issuance number from what turned out to be a dodgey employer, I contacted immigration on the 13blah-blah number and got a fluent English speaking and very compassionate immigration rep who told me that there are two ways to cancel the visa issuance number. I could contact immigration and cancel the visa issuance number myself without the employer because I did not yet have the E2 visa, or I could wait 3 months for it to expire. I did not follow up to verify the first option but do look into it. Post back and let us know how things go. I'm sure the info would be helpful to a lot of people. |
