OP. Don't worry about not having/using a credit card in Thailand. It is really unwise to give any Thai your credit card details - even a reputable hotel.

Agoda is a useful way to get around this.

Thanks so much for all you you who replied.
Now I have the use of a credit card and I can book 2 nights. (as cheap as decent) Then I will go to a travel agent there and book some place near a beach and then come back and spend the last night in Bangkok. That I will pay for in cash. Is it a good idea to take with me 100 dollar bills and just change them as I need them?
And does anyone have a place where I should book the first 2 nights in Bangkok? I do not care about night life. I just want air con, and a private room that is not too far away from interesting places.
Thanks so much people

for flights, airasia is consistently the best deal i've found so far. kicker is that you'll have to go through malaysia, so the flight you have might be a good deal.
for money, bring cash and exchange it there. it should be roughly 3.03 baht/dollar (for US 50 and 100). you also wont really have a problem finding an atm. most work just fine.
for housing, unless you're looking for a 5star, just go to an area and find a room. they're cheap and plentiful.
about areas, do some research. i only spent a night and a day there (bored of the city, cities in general) and spent it in khao san (party central. interesting market though)

So, after reading all these comments, perhaps I should just wait till I get to the airport and then book there. I can prepay, but should I? I just want a place with a nice view(if I can get it) and I would like to pay 35$ a night or less if I could get it.
I am looking and I see prices from 12$ up. I am sure for 12$ I wil get garbage But I want a single room with my own bathroom and air-conditioning.
Thanks again all!
