WARNING: This is mostly just a rant.
I teach at a GEPIK middle school. Today I found out that instead of co-teaching with all of my school's English teachers like I have since I started here, I will only teach with one co-teacher, whom I have never worked with before (though I met him once). The "new" co-teacher has actually worked at my school for awhile but is returning from medical leave.
My current main co-teacher, who is leaving, warned me today that the "new" co-teacher "won't really help [me] very much" and won't show up to class very much.
So now I get to teach all 28 of my classes alone, rather than just the 6 that are after school (and one of my afterschool classes is totally out of control). My regular classes are 40 students each and most of my students are quite unmotivated (I teach in a poor area). fml!
I'm really glad that when the semester starts I'll only have 3 months left on my contract. Looking for a new job should give me something to look forward to.
But hey, at least I won't have anyone breathing down my back while I teach and make lesson plans! Not that my co-teachers were really like that, for the most part, but still. And with new first-graders coming in, I have a chance to really lay down the law with 1/3 of my students, so that should help a bit.
Who else is teaching alone is GEPIKEPIK/SMOE? Any advice? |

I teach by myself, it's better. Yes it's harder cause you don't speak korean but at least you don't have someone taking pot shots about grammar at every chance they get or undermine your authority all the time.
If you don't like it, report him to your principal or GEPIK office. Technically you shouldn't be doing it all |

Done it for the past three years. Some like it, some don't. I loved it. I can be as lazy as I want. |
