I know that in some cities, you can register your subway/transit card so that if you lose it, you can transfer the balance or get a refund, in addition to other benefits.
Is it possible to register your T-money card here in Korea? |

| Why not ask for a bank card with an RFID chip that can be used as a T-Money card? I have one and it's brilliant. Taxis, some shops, and all public transit. It just deducts the amount I've spent at the end of the month. |

@seoulsucker,
This sounds interesting. Do all banks offer this service? What's the card called in Korean? |

| It's a good idea to make a note of the number on the back of it. If you ever have a problem, call and they can pull up all the information for that card. Not sure that would help if you lost it, but if you ever have issues with the transfer fare or the card dying and such, they can give you a refund. |

Thanks Seoulsucker and Seoulsister (any relation? ) those are both great things to know!
I lost my original T-money card that I bought a year ago. I was lucky that it only had about 2,000W on it, but if this ever happened again, I wanted to be prepared.
Thanks again! |

What bank do you use? I use Shinhan bank and I was told this wasn't possible as I'm a foreigner... |

I'm gonna call silliness on this one. Equivalent to asking if you can insure your pocket change. |

Not really. If I have 20,000-30,000W on my t-money card, it would be nice to be able to recover it.
I dont see what's so silly about that.
My hometown back in the USA allowed you to register your transit card, so if it's ever lost, the money that you added to it could be transferred to a new card. Even if it's 2,000W, that's still better than getting back 0. |

| Its a credit card. You have to ask for the transit card feature. It only works in major cities or areas like Seoul, Gyeonngi-do, Busan, Daegu etc that use T-Money. Smaller cities / regions like Gangpo don't use T-money, they use something else, usually something specific for the region and Jeju uses T-money but the transit card doesn't work there for some reason |

I usually keep about 50,000 won on mine. I use it for taxis. If I lost it, I'd like to see about getting the money transferred if possible. I use Nong Hyup, so shall check if I can get such a card when I send money home this month. A Korean friend has one, and we're in Incheon. An American friend has one as well, and she lives in Gangwando. |

| Some people put 30,000-50,000 on their card once a month, right after payday, to use that month. Losing a card with money on it could be a big pain and an unforseen expense. |
