Hey guys
I'm planning to move to Korea next year in the summer to teach english for a year. After saving some money, I'm planning to go to China and then take the railroad to Moscow. I'll make my way down through eastern Europe to Egypt and then fly to India. After some time in India, I'll make my way through SE Asia, or if I'm short on cash, fly directly to Australia/NZ to work for a few months. From there, I'll either go back to the States or go to South America.
Has anyone here ever done that route before? Care to share any other RTW travel experiences? As of right now, it's a solo trip so I'd like to do as much research as I can before I head abroad for 2 or more years.
Cheers

Are you American?
I see some visa issues jumping up to bite you (especially in regards to your work plans).
Getting visas for more than 30 days in China or getting your Russian or Indian visas may also be an issue (not impossible but not easy or cheap) for you.
Nice plan but as you well know... "... the best laid plans of mice and men..."

Yah, I'm American.
And you're right, this is a very generlized plan. And it's at least a year from fruition and a lot of things might change but because of all the logistics involved, I'm trying to plan/have a basic understanding of all the requirements before I take off to Korea.
Visa for China won't be an issue and from what I've read, most Russian privates help you get working visas. And a visa for India will be relatively easy.
But I'm really interested in reading other people's Round-the-world trip experiences |

Dude, that sounds like a well over the top trip, totally draining. May I ask you why you want to see the world in one go? We all have our different levels of what we can absorb, frankly, I'd be lucky to absorb 1/4 of what you have on offer.
Having travelled to several of the regions you'll be going to, all I can say is each place has it's own rich history and culture, and it would be an insult to each region to drift through it. Of course, this in only my opinion but this being the net and all, you're forced to read it.
Many people spend 6 months in India alone and feel like they've only scratched the surface; having spend 4 months there, I know what they mean.
Perhaps it would be cheaper to fly to London and do a massive overland trip one way rather than dollying around China, overlanding to the east and flying back to Oz and then onto South America. What's your budget for all of this by the way?
Sorry, nothing to add in general, just a few words of wisdom, well.. a few words from someone older than you at least. |

Is Egypt the only country that you're planning to visit in Africa?
Google Rolf Potts and/or Robin Esrock, they've both done a lot of writing about their world travels. |
