If you left for a month, then that means you weren't teaching. The school obviously wasn't planning on rehiring you then. This means that you WEREN'T going to do a 5th year.
In addition to this clarification from your original post, I find it hard they were able to contact you during that month if you didn't provide them contact information.
Are you not telling us something? Maybe your Plan A didn't work, so then it was you that contacted them to get your old job back. I doubt it was ever a Plan B until Plan A fell through.
Now you are seeing the ramifications of saying no to a school. |
Oh and all of you walking up the OP with torches ready to burn down his school, read the post quoted above...
How interesting anyway that an ONLINE story has more to it than what appears...
You know what, here it is: he did not show signs of re-signing with his school and left for a month. It is therefore possible the rental agreement was not renewed or a change occured and when the OP signed at the last minute the school was stuck and had to find another lodging option.
Nevermind, thats not possible! The OP is a victim and his co-teacher being an evil Korean conspired with the school to cheat him out of his housing!
There thats better. Carry on and for god's sake do not read the quote post above, its too credible and based on common sense and it will make some of your heads explode. |

I bet what happened was that EPIK_Teacher just re-signed last minute. According to his other thread, this is a fact.
So the school went to renew the lease late last week. The landlord decided to jack up the key money/rent, because he probably hasn't in 4 years. Now the cost of EPIK_Teacher's apartment is ridiculously high. So the school had to check their budget office. That took a day. Then they find out they don't have the money. So they told EPIK_Teacher. Since EPIK_Teacher is notoriously one of the most anti-Korean posters on this board. He let his bias get the best of him and got very upset about this situation. Before he got any more information. |
No thats not possible my friend. It is the collective Korea will to cheat poor ole wayguk that is in play here. No other options will be accepted. |

I got the same treatment in 2009 march. I was told I had to move 2 days before moving date and then was screwed 300,000W because the school couldn't be bothered to transfer my key-money. Now I am leaving this coming week.. I wonder what will happen to the Key money they owe me?
I agree with the OP, rules here are so flexible/convoluted the school can do pretty much as they want. It's a shame because good schools and Koreans get lumped into the same category as the bastards. The Country's image also suffers as a result. Korea has much to offer. |
