Greetings all,

I was wondering if anyone had anything to say, good bad or otherwise, about Hyunjae School in Seoul. I interviewed at the Gangnam campus today, and on paper it seems like a good package. However, I've read some pretty bad things about it, and was hoping to get some more opinions.

I'm currently working at a hagwon in Uijeongbu that I'm looking to quit primarily because it has been unreliable with its salary payment, and the financial situation seems tenuous overall. I'm hoping to find a new gig that is more secure.

Thanks.

So did you take it?

Good - They pay you.

Bad - Pretty much everything else: Books, teaching system, treatment of staff, accomodation, management, cameras in classes, no breaks, extra paperwork, telephone calling, bring your own laptop, no playing games with kids....Need I go on?

Having heard many negative things like that, I did not take the job there. I'm already at a hagwon with subpar (at best) management, so I'm not looking to go somewhere worse.

I did, however, accept a job at EG School in Anyang. I'm hoping it will be a better place to be...I'll know March 1

You did the right thing. They do pay you your salary, but not pension. And if you quit, they wait until your last day to tell you about all kinds of made up deductions, just to punish you for quitting (even though you've given them notice in accordance with the contract). It's actually better to do a runner than quit if you're not going to see out your contract.

Is this the Hyunjae near Gyodae station? I work nearby, and if anyone's up for dinner during the week, let me know!

My dinner hours are 6-7pm.
