| I've been looking at the billing options through the kt website. Anyone on the i-value or i-medium plans? |

You need to have at least 3 (or 6?) months left on your E-2, a Korean credit card and you must sign up for a two-year contract. I have a 32GB model with the i-value plan and expect to pay about 80,000won/month over 24 months for the phone and plan.
I signed up at the Gwanhamun KT Olleh shop. Head straight for the desk and they will set you up. |

If you have an E-2 visa, you no longer need a credit card to buy a phone on an installment plan. All you need is your ARC, and a Korean bank account. As a minimum, all new activations must be active for 3 months, so you'll at least need to have 3 months on your visa when you subscribe.
You'll want to sign up for a smart sponsor plan: http://expatblog.kt.com/6, and add that monthly cost to the price of your phone divided over 24 months.
For example:
If you went with a 16gb iPhone 4 and the i-Medium plan,
i-Medium = 45,000 KRW / month
iPhone 4 16gb = 740,000 / 24 = 30,833 KRW / month
45,000 KRW + 30,833 KRW = 75,833 KRW a month
(All not including VAT)
You'll pay an activation fee of 24,000 KRW, which is split over the first 3 months of your bill, so your bill will be an extra 8,000 KRW for the first 3 months, plus a one time 5,000 KRW charge for a USIM card if you dont already have one.
Head on over to one of the global stores (Gwanghwamun has a nice cafe and jazz hall if you're interested) and they'll get you squared away.
Hope that helps!

I switched from i-medium to i-value last month since they both have the unlimited data and i-value is cheaper. Though I also purchased more text messages for 15,000 extra. I probably use 50 minutes a month but blow through 1500 texts. |

I just bought an iPhone with an up front payment (946k). I believe it was at the Jongno global office. I asked to join the Smart Sponson plan, but the clerk said it was impossible. He put me up for a 12 months subscription plan with very few benefits (3000 won discount a month). Is it possible to join the Smart Sponsor plan while I'm still on a subscription? If so, how do I do it? If not, it will still be beneficial for me to just break my 12 months subscription and pay the penalty fee (50k) if that means I can get the Smart Sponsor plan.
I have to say I was a little disappointed that they wouldn't let me keep my old phone. It was in perfect condition and had planned to use it as a prepaid phone for when I have guests visiting. In addition I had to pay extra if I wanted to keep the photo's on my phone and I lost all the data I had saved except my contact list. I wish I had known this before I took the trip to Seoul. |

s4yunkim:
you mention in your post above that new E-2 subscribers require only 3 months of visa validity to obtain an iPhone...
yet, when i called KT English customer service today, the woman i spoke with said i need a minimum of 6 months.
i currently have about 4 months remaining on my visa (though i will definitely be extending), so i'm wondering...will i need to wait until the summer to obtain an iphone/ipad/whatever, or was the woman i spoke with mistaken?
also:
do any of the KT global stores offer weekend hours with english language support? (does anyone know?) i tried visiting the gwanghwamun location last weekend, but they told me they only have an english rep available M-F, which doesn't really work for my schedule... |

| Why are some people still saying E2 visa folks have to do a 2 year deal? I thought we could now get an iphone on a one year plan, if we pay upfront...no phone for weeks now...I just want a phone...iphone or not.... |

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone can answer a question.
I'm currently using an iPhone 3GS (bought from a third party) with a rolling monthly contract on KT.
If I buy an Korean iPhone 4 from a third party (say, Craigslist) can I simply put my existing SIM card into it and keep my existing monthly contract? Or do I need to go to a KT store and get a new 2 year contract? |

| Picked up an iPhone 4 32 gig last night, on the spot, at the Gangnam KT Global Store. Super easy. Basically, the deal is, you get the phone on a two-year installment plan. If you take two years to pay it, you pay around 17,000 a month for the phone. If you cancel early, you pay about 40,000 per remaining month to buy the phone. All in all, it seems like a pretty decent deal. |

I'm on a D-2 Visa and it was quite difficult for me to buy my iPhone. The only option I found possible was to go to one of the Global stores, pay a full up front payment and then sign up for a 12 months contract. You need 3 months left on your Visa, but not a credit card.
I was told a payment plan is currently not possible for a D2 visa holder without a Korean credit card (I don't know if it's even possible with a credit card). |

| hm, that's not sounding very promising. can you not sign up for smart sponsor on a d-2? I thought the whole point of it was to avoid the previous visa requirements. |
