Hello all, first time poster, long time lurker. I am a Canadian citizen visiting South Korea this summer. My wife is from South Korea but she is now also a Canadian citizen and we are heading back there to visit family and friends this summer.

This is my 3rd trip to South Korea so my question is not so much about the Land of the Morning Calm but rather your experience in traveling to nearby countries. We will be there for a total of 6 weeks. We already decided to take one of those all-inclusive 1-week China tour so that means we have 5 weeks to do some other stuff.

My wife wants to spend the rest of the time (5 weeks) with her family and friends. This is totally understandable because she has not seen some of them for at least 5 years. I don't have any family or personal friend there (I do know some of her friends) so I figure 3 or 4 weeks in the country should be sufficient for me, including trips to Busan and other attractions inside S. Korea.

We have talked about this and she is open to letting me taking a quick trip to a 3rd country. A compromise, if you will. I have done a bit of research but I have not found a lot of info (I don't understand Korean or maybe I am not putting in the right keyword search on Google) and I am hoping you folks can chime in with your 2 cents.

I am really interested in taking one of those 3-day, 2-night trip to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat so can you guys let me know how much such a trip would cost? Another alternative is to visit Tokyo for a couple of days (my niece is studying there) but I heard Tokyo is exorbitantly expensive. Another option is Bangkok because I have seen 2-day tour going for about $500CAD.

My budget will be about $800CAD/person and with the time constraint and unfamiliarity with the area, I prefer going with a tour rather than backpacking. I just want to really *travel* this time around, as opposed to spending time with family and friends which I did for quite a bit in my previous 2 trips.
