What's with all the premonitions in this story? The priest saying he can "sense evil" in her and the parents saying the fortune teller told them she should move in with him or else they would break up? WTF?

This seems mostly if not completely fabricated. Reads like a bad soap opera plot. All that's left is for one of them to have a horrible car accident and get amnesia.

i get the same feeling. maybe it's a guy venting and so of course things get exaggerated. it's a bit one sided and like another poster said above, was he really the angel that he portrayed himself to be? i take it with a grain of salt, BUT..... if you read the comments, you get a lot of people hearing similar stories.

Maybe it was just hard love? She was trying to toughen him up so that he'd be prepared should they ever find themselves in a situation like this:

I disagree. I had a slightly crazy Korean girlfriend 5 years ago who dumped me. But the point is that after she dumped me I realised how mean and manipulative and immature she was and also that plenty of my friends who had met her TOLD me this early on but I ignored them. What the OP recollects seems completely plausible to me given the extreme craziness of his woman.

As for fortune tellers - do you teach uni students? Most of my female students whom I have asked say that when it comes to dating and marriage they take 사주, blood type matching and other types of fortune telling here very seriously. Many relationships end after a trip to the fortune teller. Take that mindset and x by 100 and you see how seriously older people take it. It seems mad to us but it is dead serious to some people here.

Yes, but one more reminder of how Chinese the Koreans really are. And I have been scratched and punched by Chinese girls let me tell you. But don't tell them I said so. Fortune tellers, premonitions, superstitions galore. Maybe it's a cultural norm for sadomasochism. But I'm not about to find out. Foreign men, you're welcome to all the Korean women and girls that have the hots for me. No matter how hot. Very Happy
