I have a very small electric heater that I've been using, thinking its going to end up cheaper than turning on the main heat, however I think I may be wrong. Any one with a good/bad experience?

This thing is literally the size of the screen on a laptop btw.

I had a bad experience.

I bought a nice Delonghi space heater (one of the tower ones with a remote control, timer, and sensor).

I thought I would save money by setting it to 67 degrees and setting it to turn off when I woke up and to turn on 30 minutes before I came home from school. It also would turn off when it was a warm day.

Anyway...my bill was 220,000W for the the month of December! And I live in a tiny room that doesnt have much to it. (I also dont have a very good ondol).

I didnt live here last December, but my electric bill is usually about 20,000W-30,000W a month, the max is 50,000W in Summer when I'm blasting my A/C!

I ended up putting vinyl over the windows (the previous owner had drilled holes in the window, that's another thread) and using that crappy ondol and now I'm down to 70,000W which is ok by me.

I dont know how small your heater is, but if it doesnt have a fan (just radiant heat) then I doubt it will give you the warmth you need vs. what you'll be paying.

If someone knows better, please feel free to chime in, I'm just giving my experience.

Thanks. The heater is pretty tiny. The teacher who lived here before me bought it and left it because his bill was so high. He also told me that his summer bills are a lot less even when his A/C is on. Comparing the heater and the fan...I don't see how heater could put out near as much energy as the A/C does...for it is just a small heater that gives out radiant heat. Anyways, I arrived here a week ago, and just discovered that my first payday won't be until April 4th!. This is not good, not good at all.

I thought about doing the electic heater thing as well. I can say that for a one room, the ondol being on 20 for ALL of January (thanks to my landlady who went into my flat and turned on the heat when I was gone. It was on 15, but the theromometer is broken, so it ended up being 20), my bill was about 55,000

My husband says we should just turn the AC on hot, like 26 or something, I personally don't want to breath AC air though. Thank goodness winter is almost over.
