I decided to decline the interview offer for JET, but for many other reasons unrelated to the moral/job concerns I was originally faced with. I decided that I'd get a CELTA and do some full-time language study before looking for another teaching job. If I got accepted for a position with JET, there would be a strong chance of me being nothing more than a human tape recorder. Certainly an easy job, but one that probably wouldn't help me improve my teaching abilities and experience.

Bravo on the CELTA decision, but the first rule of JET is ESID - Every Situation Is Different. You would probably have some tape recorder duties in junior high, but elementary and senior high varies widely. The experience of working in a different country and adapting to what it throws your way counts under the learning experience column.

JET is ok for your resume if you have no experience. After that it is not very valuable as it is an entry-level program and for a lot of people, placement ends as being a human tape recorder in a small town or city in rural Japan.

It really is a crapshoot.

Good luck with the CELTA Op.

Do you have a multiple-entry visa?

If not, leaving the country will void your E2.

This is outdated information....visa regulations recently changed and E2 visa holders no longer need to apply for multiple entry permits.

Homer made another booboo?

I've been urging PatrickGHBusan to retire from advising newbies for some time now.

That new change is interesting. I was not fully aware of it as I was under the impression that you still needed to apply for a multiple entry visa when you got your E2 issued.

Great that its automatic.

By the way Junior (how appropriate your name can be at times) I advise newbies when I can and will continue to do so.

What do you do? I mean outside of whine about Korean being discriminatory, complaining about who Korea hires as foreign teachers, complaining...see a trend there?

How long have you been there Junior? Who have you helped here or in your day to day life? What have you done to improve yourself as a teacher since you arrived in Korea? I mean with all the complaining you do, you must not have much time to do anything else.

Apply to any other entry level jobs lately?

Now before you embarass yourself yet again by taking a shot at me based on innacurate info, shoot me a pm and I will provide you with an information sheet you can base you attacks on. At least you will be accurate from now on...

Take care Junior.
