How many socks do you have exactly caniff? |
I'm sock-less (I can't be bothered). I picked the name out of a U.S. Civil War book I was reading at the time (something-"Angels" - I can't remember except that it was pretty good. Steelrails probably knows the one I'm talking about) and so there we go.
I've been me and just me from the get-go here on Dave's (for better and worse) but it seems you've had more than one incarnation.
What's up with that, Rapier? |

The book was 'The Killer Angels' be Michael Shaara, I believe. But I don't recall a caniff in it. There was Kilrain, which was an amalgamation of the words Killer and Angel. I'll leaf through my well worn copy again...if there was a caniff it must have been a one-line character...
I just always thought caniff was 'can' + 'if', like "I can, if..."
If someone can guess where my SN is from they win a million space bucks. |

Yeah, I think he was a one-line/page or two guy (a minor officer leading a charge up a hill or something). I just snapped open the book, saw the first name that came to my eye and thought something along the lines of "Good as any."
I've since thought of far better ones, but now I'm attached to it. Anyway, I'll be impressed if you find it - I gave my copy away to a friend in Korea.
(As far as your handle, I've had Steelrail Ale which is a good microbrew but I suppose that doesn't get the bell rung.) |

I have always interpreted your moniker as a type of ironic spoonerism matching your opinions. |

| Update on the caniff situation. No caniff in 'The Killer Angels' however there was Calef's 2nd United States Artillery, Battery A of the Horse Artillery brigade which had the distinction of allegedly firing the first shot at Gettysburg (according to one version). They were attached to Buford's Division of Cavalry which helped to hold the high ground around McPherson's Hill until John Reynolds' I Corps came up. |

No shit, really? I guess it must have been from another book I was reading around that time (I usually have a few going at once - I'm extremely well-read, you see).
God, I suddenly feel like my parents just told me I was adopted.
edit: maybe it was supposed to be Calef and for some unknown reason I typed caniff. It was in 2004 so if that's the case I definitely would blame the soju (if it had been from about 2006 on I would blame the makkoli). |

Actually that's quite an apt comparison....
Anyways, even if the nae be wrong, reading 'The Killer Angels' at all more than makes up for any sins of spelling. |

| both deaths that I read about mentioned that the drivers were nailed by another vehicle going through a red light. So because the drivers did not wait one more second knowing how K drivers love to blow through red lights at breakneck speed that the whole 30 minute delivery should be dropped? Another example of was a driver was injured when a car trying to pass him on the street hit him. Now, if they hit someone on the sidewalk or they went through a red light then I would agree with the reasoning that it should be dropped. |

If the pizza place in question is near your home I agree. Most of the bigger chains offer discounts if you walk in and order. 20% or so.. not sure how many people take up the offer. I wonder if any of the non pizza places like Mickey D's or Rotteria (aka Lotteria) have similar guarantees? |

It's nice to know I've found a foster home here at Dave's CE lounge (and it's been months since I was last presented with the option of finding a new one!)
Back on topic, death by scooter driver (if you were a pedestrian - or even if you weren't, for that matter) seems like an ignominious way to bite it. |
