I thought you could get your background check apostilled in your state, but now recruiter is saying you have to send it to washington dc and it takes maybe 4 weeks. Is this right?
I read somewhere you can write your senator and have them rush this process? Has anyone done this? |

Some states allow you to do it. Check on your states. My friend got her FBI background check in her state, just notarization prior. The notary must know how to do it (not bank notary), or you send it to a state that allows it. My friend did hers in California and everything was accept by Korean Immigration and her recruiter.
And Korean Immigration doesn't even care, people may think it's sensitive documents or important document in the U.S. You're just another number at K-immi. Literally, my friend told me while she was there, she turned it into K-Immi, they said, do you want a copy of your background check. She said, yes. They just ripped off the staples off the apostille (staple is what makes it legal according to the rules in the United States, apparently they don't care).
So basically just get an apostille in the state (if state allow), it's a lot faster. Korean Immigration just match your name to your id and make sure the apostille is on top of it. Again, you're just a number to them that they are processing. They see that stuff everyday. Doesn't have to be D.C. The dumb part is most state worker doesn't even know how to proceed with the background check and give wrong information. The thing is this document is fairly new. It's issued in 2009 or 2010, the new background check format, so the states are still training their employees.
Not sure where you got your info from, but most recruiters said you can just get it from the state.
It's not as serious as most people make it out to be.

I honestly don't think kimmi cares. I went with mine, they asked if I wanted a copy of it and they proceded to pull out the special grommets that made it a legal apostillisation in order to copy it.

I tried to get NY State do it because it would be faster. The refused because it was a Federal document, so I had to send it to DC.
That being said, I just renewed by ARC and immigration didn't ask for the CBC (which I don't have yet) and never even looked at the newly apostilled diploma.
From experience, they are more demanding for a brand new visa application. They let all sorts of shit slide for renewals. |

you know you are right. That recruiter was ill informed. I checked with my secretary of state, and they absolutely will apostille an FBI criminal background check. And same day service too.
I'm trying to figure out if I have to get it notarized first or not, but I will just call and check with them.
thanks |

I can't speak to what korean Immigration cares about, BUT I do know that going through the US dept. of State, your FBI check is verified accurate.
A state apostille will verify the notary is registered with the state.
Korean immigration may not care now, but who knows in the future. I will admit waiting for the US dept of State sucks. I'm about 3 weeks out and nothing back yet. |

Well I've have 2 good job offers on my table, one from GEPIK and another after school program in Busan. Still waiting on DC for my apostille.
I have an extra copy of my background check, and I may end up going through my state after all, since I'm being rushed.
Does anybody know if Missouri, Kansas, or Louisiana will apostille an FBI check. I'm going to call them tomorrow. |
