What is the acceptable time frame in Korea?
Have you ever seen a Korean breastfeeding in public, or have any insight into where they do it when they are away from home?

Haven't you ever been to E-Mart and seen the special door marked "Sucking Room"?? This is where the breast feeding takes place.

Korean mothers generally breast feed until the kid reaches Hagwon age....which is around 16 weeks.

6 months is the minimum WHO recommends. In korea, it seems to be that age, I personally wouldn't breastfeed a two year old. I'd breastfeed until the baby was 1. ON another note, my neighbour was breastfed until he went to kindergarten, some people take things too much to the extremes. Shocked

Judging by the emotional maturity (rather, relative immaturity) of my kindergarten students, I'd say half of them are still on the boob.

I wasn't breast fed and I turned out just fine.

I've had students tell me they share a bed with their parents. They are kindergarten age. Still, it seems odd for a 6 year old (7 Korean) to sleep in bed with their folks.

A lot of K-moms I know go until 12 months.

There are breastfeeding rooms in a lot of places-- every department store, a lot of Emarts and Homepluses, the larger subway stations... you could also buy (or make, if you are crafty) a fabric nursing cover, which is what they would use while at a restaurant or something.

One of the best nursing rooms I saw was at the DMV here! Compare that to the US Embassy where there is ONE crappy toilet stall which everybody must share-- and they know damn good and well that babies have to be brought to the Embassy to register the birth before 30 days old!

There are many people who have smoked crack and turned out just fine. I probably wouldn't encourage people to do it just because some people turn out fine. The evidence of the health benefits of breast feeding are overwhelming.

I saw a woman start breastfeeding on the subway. She had a blanket for covering herself and the baby. It was adorable, because she had a kindergarten-aged daughter who helped hold the blanket in place to shield her mother and younger sibling. I looked away, accordingly, but it was a pretty sight that made my day.

I wasn't breast fed because I was a premie and had to spend time in an incubator, and by the time I was able to go home my mom couldn't produce breast milk. My little sister rejected my mom's nipple in favor of a bottle. It's funny yet sad, because my mother really wanted to breast feed the both of us.

you think the early settlers had separate rooms for the kids out on the trail?
you think the native Indians had the parents tipi and the kids tipi?
tribes of past and today still share rooms and beds, it's natural and its been this way for thousands of years.

but yes in todays conservative messed up world I can see why you would think it's wrong.
I think it's a beautiful thing.
