Emotionally: when my grandfather died.
Physically: playing rugby for the county, and some fat (mod edit) landed on me in a ruck. Broke my collar bone, 2 ribs, and my arm. On the upside, I missed 2 months of gymnastics in PE.

Yikes! Where was this, and how did you get it to end?

It was in Korea. Non-consensual sexual activity several times a week with this psychopath for over a year as he blackmailed me. Hospitalized after it occurred to me that only goading him to attach me and letting him hurt me (not defending myself) would make the cops think about it from my perspective (up to that point "if he loves you that much, why don't you just marry him?").

I finally told him I was going to work in a summer camp, then stayed home and never turning on a light at night packed all my stuff, moved it to a friend's house, then moved myself to China. Came back a year later, haven't seen him or heard from him since. That was 2001-2003.

I was a wreck long before the end. The emotional torture was much worse than the rest.

Wow. Shocked That's terrible! I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through that. How the devil did he blackmail you? Of course, personal details aren't necessary. Feel free not to answer if it's too painful. I'm glad that you're okay now, though.

Finding out after a year or so of no contact that the reason my friend hadn't replied to my email was this:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-472173/Drug-crazed-clubber-jailed-life-stabbing-war-hero-death.html

(My friend being the victim, not the perpetrator)

After having lived abroad for 4 years (as I had at the time) it's kind of normal to fall out of contact with people. When you find out that the reason is absolutely horrific rather than just the regular slowly falling out of contact thing.. it's awful.

Wow, all of you have miserable luck. I'd say that the worst I've ever felt was when I found out that a serious girlfriend had been cutting herself and not knowing how to deal with it.

My best friend dying of cancer. Not once did I see him appear weak, upset or defeated throughout his treatment or when he was literally a walking skeleton and his usually brown skin turned grey. Always positive, laughing and smiling...I learnt a lot from his passing.

Shocked

One of my worst fears living here in Korea is that one of my old friends in the US will die and I won't find out about it. I should really do a better job of keeping in touch with people.
