Believe it or not. Itaewon now has a 'non-smoking' bar.

I couldn't believe it. I walked into Nashville's on the weekend and there were 'No Smoking' signs all over the place, and all the ashtrays have been removed. I asked the bartender, almost in disbelief, "Is this now a non-smoking bar". And they confirmed that it was, 100%. Probably the first non-smoking bar in Seoul.

I have never smoked, and I always resent going back home after a night out stinking of second-hand smoke. If I pick up my clothes the next morning and smell them, I feel like I'm going to vomit. But on Saturday night I went home without the slightest scent of smoke on my clothes.

So kudos to the owner of Nashvilles. This is a brave move to make in Korea, and I hope he sticks with this new format.

Right on!

Awesome! I haven't been to that one. Where exactly is it? Also, do they have dart boards? <<hopeful face>>

It's about time the more militant anti-smoking lobby started inconveniencing smokers in Korea. We need to judge and condemn smokers more.

It's not like I carry a water gun around, squirting out cigarettes. It's just nice that there are finally some places for us to go where we don't come home smelling like the stuff, with possible sore throats the next day.

Nashville's is a strange place to initiate that. i guess they've gotten popular with the yuppies due to their rooftop in the summer. still, i always remembered it as a seoul pub-esque pit.

Best of luck, though..

Nashville's is right next to Seoul Pub (across from KFC). It has two pool tables and a dart board. It's usually where I have my first couple of drinks on a Saturday night before moving on to my regular haunt. But now that it's become a 'smoke-free' zone, I think I'll be spending a lot more time there. The owner also owns the salsa bar on the third floor (I don't know the name), and it is smoke-free now too.

I guess I should have said that there are now 'two' non-smoking bars in Itaewon. Very Happy

Cool to know. I do like patios, so shall have to check it out. I usually go to Scrooge's, 3 Alley, or Sam Ryan's, because that's where the majority of my friends go. It'd be nice to be able to go somewhere with the non-smokers for a bit before inevitably heading to the 3 I stated for an hour or so. 1 or 2 hours is far better than 4 or 5!

Smoking is raunchy. I think places that serve food should always be smoke free during "eating hours", and it's good to hear there's non-smoking bars here, too.. good.

All the family restaurants (Outback being one in Itaewon) are non-smoking as far as I know. I don't smoke, but I found it a tad ridiculous when a family brought their 2 kids into smoky old Wolfhound at 8pm and my smoking friend kept trying to shush my sailor talk. There is a lot going wrong in that picture.

The upstairs floor of Scrooge (Dickens Lounge) has been non-smoking since it opened about a year ago or so.

The main area of Craftworks is non-smoking. There is a separate area for smokers.

Tony's Aussie Bar has always been non-smoking. It's nice to go home without smelling like a cigarette.

As a smoker I say- Good for the Non-Smoking Bar. We need more. A lot more. Let people choose what they want to do. The more people make voluntary choices, and the less things like laws are discussed, the better.

Although after a recent experience, I have to say smoking should be banned in homes and stuff from 3AM-noon. I don't smoke until 6PM and I don't smoke inside my apartment. It's absolutely disgusting. And I agree that restaurants shouldn't allow smoking (not law, owner's choice) during lunch and dinner hours. Save it for the 10PM-6AM crowd.

As someone who is horribly allergic to cigarette smoke (to the point of flu-like symptoms and spontaneous nosebleeds), it's nice to know there are some bars in this country (conveniently in Itaewon, even!) where I can go to enjoy myself as well.

I'm only anti-smoking out of necessity. People have a right to smoke as long as it doesn't interfere with my right to breathe. Having bars that choose to be non-smoking is a great solution. Kudos to Nashville!

If you'd been born in the 40s you'd never have made it to adulthood.

In regards to Nashville being like Seoul Pub: Yes, it very much is. In fact, on at about 10am after quite a few hours drinking I dragged my new 'friends' to the roof of Seoul pub promising them a roof garden with waitress service. Turns out, Seoul pub doesn't have that. It has kimchi pots. I got my awful-hellholes confused. Oh well.

On another note... I bet a semi-classy bar (think behind Hamilton Hotel side) with a no-smoking policy and an extensive vegetarian menu could do very well. I'm not sure Nashville is the right place though.
