Hi,

I notice that food is a big deal for most expats in Korea. Would you use / like a service like Yelp.com for Seoul (but with a better design)? Do you think something like this could be successful in Korea despite the expat community being relatively small? There are some decent food blogs, and expat sites that feature restaurant and club reviews but they're all editor reviewed and written. I like Yelp because it's mainly community and peer reviewed places. Oh and it's not just food and beverage too. They just give you the tools and away you go. Your input would be appreciated.

I'm sure most expats would.

The reason yelp hasnt flourished with Koreans is because it's english only. If you type in other languages it doesnt save it. That and the fact that it just doesn't support Seoul.

It would be fantastic.
I don't think there is a decent restaurant/pub/club/shopping list for Seoul despite how big the city is and how many expats live here.

If it had Korean language support, I think it would be really successful.

So apparently there is something along those lines. Made/sponsored by the Seoul government:

There are some expat magazines and the food bloggers but the whole idea is that all the content and reviews are consumer driven and peer reviewed. No one get's comped meals or get's paid to write a nice review of the place. That's why Yelp is so great. Sure there's some "fake accounts" but overall it's a good barometer of a places quality. I would envision this "Yelp Seoul" would be English only as Koreans have "Wingspoon" created by NHN which is the leader and dominates. Putting a site together like this would require money, and time so i'm trying to do an informal check to see if this is something that the general expat community would use and like. Of course this wouldn't be called Yelp specifically but it'd be the same concept and mostly the same features. Thanks!

As someone who just arrive in Korea, I would love a yelp-like site for Seoul.
