My girlfriend and I will be flying into Kuala Lumpur this March and are going to spend a month in Malaysia/Thailand. I was hoping some of you with a bit of experience could offer up some recommendations. Here's what we're looking for:

- Relaxed, uncrowded island.
- Clear water, white sand.
- Cheap bungalow-style accommodations, ~10-25 USD/night (neither of us are picky, nothing luxurious)
- Closer to Malaysia than Bangkok

It's hard to find anything advertised that isn't already a bit crowded and we'd really like to spend most of our time in one spot, not moving about. Any tips/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Head to Klong Khong Beach, Koh Lanta, Thailand. Nice sunsets, beautiful beach, but without the crowds you might find on Long Beach or Klong Dao. The only problem is that this beach isn't very good for swimming during low tide (great during high tide though). I stayed at Where Else Resort, which has these super basic bamboo bungalows and it feels like you're camping. There are plenty of other budget places to stay on Klong Khong as well, just have a look around when you get there.

Klong Nin beach, south of Klong Khong on Lanta, is also nice and relatively uncrowded, but I think it's generally more expensive to stay there.
