Last hired and first fired. Many Irish Americans, ancestors of mine, found this to be the case in The United States at times. This may or may not be the case for you in South Korea at the moment.

Alot of Koreans are very intolerant with errors in grammar and spelling.
Aggrevation is aggravation, discrimnate is discriminate, and contractions contain apostrophes. ( These typos and/or oversights in your post suggest to me that your resume and cover letter might be tainted in the same way. ) Many employers and recruiters in Korea and/or elsewhere will toss your resume aside when they catch mistakes.

You can find work in a hurry here. Good luck!

Is this before or after they look at the photo? I respectfully disagree with the jist of the post. Recruiters look to get paid and they work with the ones who can get them paid the easiest REGARDLESS of typos. They'll ask you to correct it if they think it needs to be. I caught my own error on my resume recently after a few job offers when I realized a couple words were underlined in a spell check at a pc bang. My laptop didn't have the spell check on when I wrote it.

Its well known non-whites have a harder than usual time of getting jobs. Either its denial of that fact and has a 'blame the victim' tinge to it.

The OP is right, this forum is informal. We write in slang, etc. on here. Very few, if any, writes the same way on a resume or in a formal setting.

PS: Even in the 1800s when the Irish faced massive discrimination, they were STILL favored over blacks and native americans (as well as women). They may have been last hired, first fired but the latter were NEVER hired.

David, a few things:

1- This is Dave's ESL Cafe, not a college thesis or a resume so no, I'm not going to bother with spell check or apostrophes.

2- I'm college educated, enrolled in a master's program at a highly selective school and own multiple properties so please spare me the condescension.

3- For the record, my resume is flawless.

4- I typed the post in a hurry so get a grip.

5-- Thank you for wishing me luck.

6- There are probably errors in this response but I have a class in 3 mins so *shrug*.

If you're so highly qualified and own so many properities, why the hell are you wasting your time in Korea? Rolling Eyes

I feel for the OP, I really do. The job market in many places has just evaporated. I'm not black, so I don't know what its like, but it has to be super frustrating that your qualifications and hard work are largely ignored in favor of a picture.

Depends on the kind of property doesn't? Apartment houses, single family dwellings, office builldigs. Many properties in this economy may only cover the mortgage, taxes and expenses of running it and don't generate much income after that or may not be generating enough to cover it all and the value has gone down so that you'd have to sell it as a loss.
