I totally missed this story. Maybe someone posted something on this before? Sorry if it is a repeat.

What the hell is a diplomat doing carrying a weapon and surveillance equipment? Sounds like some major BS to me. |

| The guy might actually be a spy sent as a diplomat. Pretty common in the world of espionage. Usual protocol is kick the guy out and the US would respond in a similar fashion with trumped up allegation with some low level diplomat/spy. However public opinion got the Pakistani government in a bind. |

Yeah, they're kicked out due to losing their cover, not due to killing 2 people in public. The guy really f-d up this one. |

Yeah, I read something on this issue.
Seems he was either working for the CIA as an undercover or was a security officer running security for a higher lvel person who was in a vehicle behind him.
That vehicle left (after hitting another person) and he stayed around to wait for the police to turn up and tell them what happened. They then arrested him.
The two shot were supposed to be low level operatives/ part timers for the pakistani police/security services according to the pakistanas.
Both were armed but supposedly shot as they ran away (who knows.)
He was probably running security as a front person and either the two had him under survailance and weren't that good at it. he percieved them as a threat (its Pakistan) and took action.
Though if they were really low level operatives and the Intelligence service in pakistan is in bed with the Taliban, they could just as easily been Taliban.
Its a confused issue for sure, Police/Army probably want to charge him if it was thier guys he killed. Government probably wants to let it go but cant because of public opinion, etc. Public want to kill him because hes an american who killed two pakistana's.
Clusterfuck for sure whatever the truth is. |

According to the final paragraph of this Washington Post article,
"...the two Pakistanis who were killed had robbed two people earlier the same day and stolen their cellphones. The report also said at least one of the motorcyclists cocked a gun and aimed it at Davis while he was stopped at an intersection." |

Well if thats true, they might have seem him as an easy expat target and tried to rob him. The then freaked out and took off when they realised he wasn't a business man or aid worker, because he pulled a pistol on them.
He's ex special forces, saw it as an attack on his package rather than a basic robbery and took protective measures.
End result still the same.
