A few of my peers from uni/hs went to Oz and picked veggies and other odd jobs for a few months. None stayed. Maybe these are the people recessiontime is coming into contact with.

Yeah, "going for the work" could mean "going for a working holiday".

Thanks guys, I just learnt my new fact for the day.

Hamilton is a city in Canada.

Until the last statement of a Hamiltonian, I thought they were talking about a city in NZ.

Wasn't it obvious? Laughing I already stated that I'm a Canadian in the first place.

The result is that except for the absolute wealthy who have no national identity as they own property, businesses etc in many different countries, the rest suffer from being constrained by thier passports while being paid or not according to thier national identity.

I don't think that's the problem in New Zealand's case. People in New Zealand always expects something great in politics. They rely too much on Australia just how the majority of banks there are own by Aussies, plus the strong anti-intellectual sentiment in that country doesn't help anybody.

Has anybody seen the movie Idiocracy? My Kiwi female friend often sarcastically joke how this movie is in sync with New Zealand's society. Confused

How my Kiwi friend describes her birth country: "There are too many Kiwis moving to Australia to work. NZ's economy is collapsing like a dead bird falling from the sky. It's a good time for the collective self-hatred and let's become Aussies or Canadians."

Is living in New Zealand really that bad? Then I found an article how the brain drain in NZ is very bad. A brain drain approved by the Prime Minister?

Quote:
A two-day Oz Jobs Expo in Auckland attracted 7000 people - some of whom were hired on the spot - but the Prime Minister says it is natural that some New Zealanders will shift across the Tasman.

I was comparing Toronto to NSW. Not Canada to Australia. I haven't been outside Toronto or Ontario. I've lived in Hamilton and London for several years too and the situation wasn't much better.

Anyway, the fact that Canadians are coming here in droves to do terrible jobs says something. The other day a telemarketer called to bother me. Turned out that the telemarketer was a Canadian. I asked her if she moved to Australia for this job and she told me yes. That was pretty crazy stuff.

It seems like half the people I grew up with (I'm from London, actually) are now living in Australia.

New Zealands population is still steadily rising (abeit slowly) through immigration. By the 2020's Asians for instance are expected to be the largest minority group even overtaking Maori.

Kiwi's are a sarcastic bunch and many people from elsewhere don't really understand that when a kiwi says something theres a good chance they're just taking the piss or wanting to find out another person's opinion.

A famous quote from the 70's from the then NZ Prime Minister, when asked by an aussie reporter if he was concerned about the number of NZr's immigrating across the Tasman

" Not at all I think, it's a good thing, it raises the IQ in both country's"

I've worked with both British and European people who have immigrated for lifestyle reason's. That the NZ government makes it easier for foreign land ownership is openly stated.

So the future of NZ, as being the only country colonised by the middle class will continue unabated. I just wish I brought land there in the 90's it's getting a tad expensive now

A lot of Koreans have sizable land here. Some openly skite about having made their fortunes on land speculation.
