Was wondering if anyone has been on these trips, and if they are worth paying for and getting up at the crack of dawn for. I was also wondering about the Seoraksan & Osaek Hot Spring trip, or any other trips worth going to. I've never used Adventure Korea, how is it and are there any alternatives?

I have never been on those particular trips, but my experience with Adventure Korea has always been pretty good. Usually the itineraries are a bit different than what's on the website because they recycle them and don't adjust them, but usually it's pretty close to what will be going on.

I've gone on 3 or 4 trips with them and will do a few more this year I'm sure.

i have been on the Caving & Ferry Riding (sept 2010) and Seoraksan & Osaek Hot Springs (nov 2010) trips, as well as others with AK. i thoroughly enjoyed both and i like the company, they are more expensive than other groups but also more organized/reliable. however i'm not sure about going on those trips in the winter, but they were great when i went...

I was disappointed last time. One trip, SJ the owner beat the crap out of his g/f in a drunken rage. I went to the next trip and he didn't offer the same entertainment.

Adventure Korea is well??!.......an adventure. I hope your in shape because usually when they say Mountain Climbing/Caving,it will mean scaling on the side of a fifty foot cliff or rock..

I'll never forget the rock climbing weekend, I though we saw St. Peters' gates' at one point.

Oh well. what doesn't kill you only makes' you stronger, right?!

So, Good Luck OP-as they say in Rome; don't look down.!!

on the Seoraksan trip, you can choose from an easy, medium, or hard trail. you don't have to be in shape... i'm certainly not! Smile

I went on the DMZ and the caving trips. Preferred the DMZ one - much more relaxing. Found the caves stressful, but the ferry ride was lovely. The bus trip was hell on that trip though.

AK is pretty good. Sook-jin is the bomb. I've done paintball a bunch of times, whitewater rafting/bungee and the NK trip. All were great. It is a fun way to meet other foreigners and see interesting parts of Korea. Reasonable price too.

It was like 3 years ago..We did the Rock Climbing and Hike ( not a climber or mountain person, obvouosly).

We ended up getting REALLY lost on the trail for hours and then had to hitchhike back. ( because the bus had left us).

Luckily, we were picked up by a very nice Korean family as opposed to what could have happened had we been picked up by a complete pyscho. You know?!

i did the easy trail and enjoyed it... nice hike to a waterfall and then took the cable car. my boyfriend and some other friends did the hard hike to ulsanbawi rock. they liked it but they said it was really hard and so crowded, they had to stand and wait on these scary metal steps for a long time. and at the top it was windy and scary.

After reading this thread I checked out their site and was just about to sign up for a trip with them when I saw they raise funds for the North Korean military. I sent them this:

Quote:
Hello,

I was looking at your website and was going to sign up for a trip, but I noticed you take people on trips to Kaesong, North Korea.

I am just letting you know that I will not buy from a company that supports the evil regime in North Korea and helps them murder their people. Every trip to Kaesong puts more money in the pocket of Kim Jung-Il and the North Korean military. The money is used to enslave North Korean citizens by making the North Korean government and military more powerful.

As a Korean, you should be ashamed that you are helping to enslave your Korean brothers in the North.

Sincerely,

You don't actually expect him to reply to that or care about that, do you? Just sayings all.

JR: Seok-jin is the bomb. So is his fist. Ask him ex-g/f about that. She got a 'bomb' right in the moosh from his drunken angry rage.

Iv'e never gone with them but our group, Korea's International Outdoor Recreation and Tour Group, is a very well organized and safe group to hike with. We have local hikes most weekends and during the week. In April we're going to Mt. Maisan Provincial Park and Bowhasan, then in June another tour of Jeju.
