How much is a HUGE chunk exactly? I was in Korea in 2009 and was taxed at 3.3% from my schools. I plan on coming back and am a little disheartened to hear that taxes may have increased exponentially... |

If you're thinking about PS then it's tax free for your first two years. That's the official policy and I haven't paid tax in 18 months.
They ask you to sign some form stating your country of residence before you leave your home country or at the start of your new contract. I had actually been teaching in Korea for 2 years before I signed up with EPIK. I said that I didn't qualify for the tax exemption so didn't full in the form. I still haven't been taxed.
The tax rate should only be about 3.3-3.5 % for our salaries anyway, so I'm pretty relaxed about it all, even if the tax man does come knocking |

Bump.
Just had a HUGE chunk taken from my February pay due to income tax and another, smaller bite taken out for resident's tax.
This must be what some poster's have been talking about. |
Cool. At the same time that they inflate the money supply like crazy and cause the prices of everything from the grocery store and the gas pump to go up, they're gonna take more at the other end too. Great to get taken from both ends by the government. |
