It was a record cold winter and that's how we all pay for it. Mine was high, too. |

Maybe this is the month when the gas prices are highest. Some months electricity is cheaper and vice versa. |

I know that hindsight is 20/20, but maybe you should write down the reading on your meter every month around the time when you know the meter reader comes. Or take a dated pic with your camera. Then you'll have proof.
I was quite pleased with my gas bill...only 53,000! Rats! We could have kept it warmer in here! |

There were days when the high was 10F. What else can you do except run the heat?
I don't want to drag out all of those links/stories but it was record cold. |

I saw some of my neighbors' bills (a couple didn't pay on time, so the management put notices on their doors stating how much was due for each month late). Some owed 180k for last month. My bill (this is an all inclusive utilities and management fee) was 145k, so I don't think it has to do with being a foreigner. |

Wow! Identical to my January bill. A bone chilling 96,000 won for a month I wasn't using hot water and heat for 16 out of 31 days. My December bill was 92,000 where I had used just 1 unit less at 4,000 won per unit of LPG, but was here the whole month. I have a small boiler thing just twice the size of a shoe box on my freezing cold veranda, but it's LPG hungry. That cold weather in January made it work twice as hard and yet the showers were usually luke warm at best instead of being comfortably hot.
If it were my choice, I just get a highly energy efficient shoe box sized European hot water heater in the bathroom on turned on for a hot shower. Then only use an electric heater which I already have to use anyhow since the hot water floor heat doesn't do much. It would work in Korea, because the electric is the same as in France and Germany, but being a miserly shoestring budgeter who doesn't mind the cheap way simply isn't how Korea does it. |

Just a tip (from someone who has lived in old Korean apartments for a long time!) about those lukewarm showers:
Don't turn the water on full blast. Half or 3/4 of the way is better as it gives the colder water a longer time to heat. |

just got 205,000 for my utilities.. I live in a modest officetel.
I keep my heat down about 17 or 18 and just use a space heater when I'm around. |

Gas prices went up for Jan by 30%. With a cold winter that will have you using up to 4 times as much gas, your bill is going to be high. I had to fork out 180k for mine! Was a heavy hit. Now I just wear jerseys indoors. Screw using the gas. |

20,000 for mine. I live in a one room yet use a radiant heater during the day when it's cold and electric blanket at night with no other heat. That must be the reason my electric bill was 100,000 last month.
I'm almost afraid to turn on ondol. I don't want to pay through the nose.
I make it a point to live in warmer parts of Korea such as Busan. Cuts down on the energy bills.
Don't forget. We public school and university teachers, as well, are home more often on vacation during the winter so that also attributes to the increase. |

My bill was 305,000W for the month. Shocking yes, but I know it's cause I was home for the whole month (have a broken leg) so it was on constantly. This is for a three bedroom apartment. |

My officetel hovered around 20 degrees Celsius thanks to my heat-loving neighbours so my ondol stayed on the "away" setting and my gas bill this month was 20,000. I did buy one of those radiant heaters and used it from time to time so I expect my electric bill to go up. |
