How long is your summer holiday?

Honestly, you can do what other people are saying and it will work... over time. It can take months or even years to get down to the weight you want by taking baby steps.

Or you can pop down to one of the many Muay Thai schools/camps in Thailand. They're all over the place and are loaded with other foreigners. Sweat your arse off 4 hours a day in the heat punching bags and running sprints and the weight will melt off you in a matter of weeks. I went down for a month last year and dropped 10kgs!

I'm about to head down for 3 months this time. I should have a certified 6 pack by the time I get back to Korea.

If you're on a diet and can't cut out the booze then stick to coke zero and scotch/whiskey (zero carbs). You can drink that for seven days a week and it won't hinder your diet/weight loss.

Sometimes I bring my own coke zero to the bar and give it to the bar staff (just in case they don't have any), so that they can pour me exactly what I want.

I haven't had a "regular" Coke in 20 years, and when sometimes mistakenly served instead of Diet, I recognize it immediately, cuz it tastes like sugar (which it is).

Oh yeah and as much as it sucks for the alcoholics here, booze is the #1 fattener of all. Kills your metabolism, kills your testosterone, and is full of useless carbs and calories. Combine that with a lack of exercise and you're got a fat waegook. I would wager that by cutting out alcohol alone you will see the most improvement more than any other change you make.

Alcohol is the biggest excuse, but those who are more than armchair knowledgable know booze never made anyone really fat. You eat fast food 3-4 times a week, I'll drink everyday. I'll win because you'll gain.

Hey everyone, check this out, a hilariously uniformed and 100% wrong statement. "Booze never made anyone really fat"

I will say that a well placed glass of red wine a day can have benefits. But you really need to be careful with that alcohol. This is coming from someone who gained 5 lbs in like 2 months when I got here, likely due to soju and carbs. In America I was eating bacon and food cooked with bacon grease every day. (In either case, I'm not a snacker.) So seriously, look out for that alcohol!!!! and rice!!!!!

Good for you. I was in a similar position about a year and a half ago, and since then I've lost about 50 pounds. My advice: learn how to count calories and try to stay under 2000/day, exercise (for me this was simply just taking really long walks, like 2-3 hours or more), and never ever drink your calories (soda, coffees, booze). If you create a consistent calorie deficit and stick with it the weight will come off.

great, thanks for that. but didn't you ever treat yourself? like just on a weekend say, you'd be allowed something 'bad'?

I did actually look into that before. How much did it cost you? and where in Thailand did you do it?

I've been thinking about this. I know white rice is pretty unhealthy, but surely if you don't eat too much it's fine to eat every day?

How much rice would you say is enough for a meal? One cup of cooked rice?

Do the P90x if you have the time and discipline. You won't really have to watch too much what you eat. You'll lose weight fast.

Here is the trouble with rice: A cup is roughly 240 calories. It's not a hell of a lot. But, all those calories are sugar basically and don't burn the same as protein or even fibrous carbs. I find I become hungry sooner after eating rice compared to other types of food. (Isn't this an old Chinese food joke?) Additionally, it has nothing to offer nutrition wise so if you are on a calorie-restricted diet, you may end up cutting out nutrients to accommodate for the calories of the rice.

I am still eating a little rice at lunch, but usually only 1/3 of what the kindy kids eat. I will take a little extra soup and drink copious amounts of tea. I am a petite female and I do not require as many calories as a male. If you are male, you may need to add a lot more protein and veggies or continue eating rice to be satiated.

Ideally, I would cut out rice completely, but my students have already been acting all weird. "Teacher, why you don't eat?" Or worse, asking me lovely and skinny co-teacher why she eats so much.

really BAD reason to do/ or not do something.

they used to ask me why I don't eat rice, until I kept repeating "rice sucks" Laughing (albeit not quite in those very same words )

I've lost a ton of weight recently and I still eat rice all the time. But I try not to eat more than one cup of rice per meal (although I often fail).

There are better carbs out there for sure, but that doesn't mean that rice is inherently the devil and to be avoided. Just make a serving your source of carbs and then fill up as much as you can on vegetables so you don't get hungry.

You're giving some horrible advice.

I've heard you should snack with healthy snacks throughout the day to speed up your metabolism. Or eat 4-5 small meals a day.

Also, eating smaller portions of fatty foods won't help you lose weight. Eating smaller portion of the right foods (low carbs, high proteins / veggies) will.

Exercise a little? You need to exercise 3-5 times a week doing cardio and weight training exercise to lose weight most effectively.

how is this horrible advice, it worked. and also, "you've heard'? how is this credible advice?
If a person who eats a lot every meal starts portioning it, they will lose weight. plain and simple. you gain weight from over eating...
