So I just ordered something off of Gmarket with my foreign Visa. No problems, order confirmed shortly after. A couple hours later I get this e-mail, with the correct order number... wondering if anyone else was asked to do this. Is this a scam???

Dear Customer,
First of all, thank you for your purchase of order no. XXXXXXXXX through G-market.

As for your on-line purchase, we'd like to inform you that delivery is not available at the moment as we cannot confirm if it is your card. We don't have any way to confirm it here as long as it's an undomesticated card, unfortunately.

On this reason, we kindly ask you to send us a photo of credit card(with last 4 digit hidden).
The name on credit card should be the same as the one on ID card.
And after checking necessary date for increasing payment ceiling on Gmarket, your email will be deleted right away.

We hope that we can handle this matter ASAP so that you can receive your order soonest .
please be reminded again that we cannot proceed with this order without the confirmation mentioned above.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Thank you for your great cooperation.

Sincerely.

Some merchants will not fill an order if the name doesn't match or if the shipping address is different from the billing address. Not sure if this will help with this transaction or with Korean merchants in general, but you can call your credit card company and register an alternate shipping address (your Korea address). Then, when the merchants call your card company, they can get an official address verification and you're good to go...

It's a feral card Very Happy

But this sounds proper, last 4 digits covered is normal procedure.

i had something simialr about 2 years ago when was at home in uk... ordered some slipmats off a usa based website, transaction went through got my roder numnber and everytihg, then got a generic email requesting for a scanned image of my credit card with last 4 digits erased...

luckily, it was a small company and i emailed them asking what it was about, and i got a personal email back from a staff member. after exchanging a few emails expressing unease and so on, eventually i felt it was safe and proceeded to email them the required info.

transaction went through and i got my slipmats. but yeah - was real dubious at first, and now i know its standard procedure when ordering from abroad with a non-local card.
