I'm sure you'll be able to find a job with lots of vacation because nobody else is ever interested in those.

According to most posts, they seem to be the only reasons the majority of people on here want to get University jobs

Not really.

In my case, I want to teach, and of course I want the best possible job and arrangement within that possibility.

I also have another degree in development, and would like to combine education credentials with development in other areas (i.e. raising money for schools and micro-enterprises in Least Developed Countries, using education to cut off at the root the flow of human trafficking, etc.). You need time to do theses things.

Most hogwans give you 10 days of paid vacation each year. That's in addition to national holidays. You don't usually get to choose your time.

Hagwon and vacation shouldn't be in the same sentence. I also heard they have to work a lot of those national holidays.

OP might wanna try a public school for starters.

thanks ttompatz fior your response. i guess i should have been more specific.

i have tesol certification and teaching experience (but not here and not a certified teacher)

anyway, by a lot, i meant 4 weeks, even 3 weeks would be good. okay for those of u who were making fun of me, how would you handle wanting to take a couple days off for a wedding in thailand? do u use your sick days or what? i worked 60 hour weeks in the u.s. so i was hoping to take it a little more easy here but looks like everyone thinks i'm just being a slacker! Uni jobs give ~3 weeks I believe.

No, daisydew, not everyone. Lots of people on this site just have a habit of being extremely hypocritical. I think your best bet would be a public school gig. However, I don't know of any scenario in a teaching job, neither here nor anywhere, that allows you to choose your own vacation days.

When is your wedding? Maybe it falls within a vacation time period. Otherwise, you will have to make up a story and risk serious ire. Basically, I already told my friend my usual vacation times. If her wedding falls outside of that - sorry I can't go.

Many public school jobs give 21 business days of vacation. In the past, SMOE contracts said if you miss 7 consecutive days in a row you can be fired, and the admins verified if I left M-F for unofficial reasons, my pay would be docked, and I probably wouldn't be rehired, but I would not be fired.

Your best bet would probably be public school. Between 18-21 business days (so 3-4 actual weeks of vacation) with plenty of time to do your own thing in the afternoon (but remain at school).

OP, if you don't mind starting in June you can take my job. I've had plenty of vacation time though I didn't get to choose the dates. You'll also get great pay (higher than standard), and a lot of creative freedom in your lesson planning. My school has hired Gyopos before. PM me if you want to know more.

It's one of the reasons. Other reasons are, 3 day work schedule (me), having curriculum freedom, teaching lectures and then going straight home, having control over students' final grade etc.

Having said all of that, even teaching at a uni does get rather dull after a while.

In fairness to the OP, she does not mention this at all.

On officer's selection courses, laziness is thought of as an attribute. A lazy person tries to figure out a shortcut. Who wants somebody that bludgeons their way through every situation with blinkers on?

I just got to Seoul a couple of days ago and am staying with my aunt (i'm a halfie) on an F4 visa. Before I left I had scoured this website looking for jobs with the best vacation but had a hard time finding good ones in Seoul with decent areas (preferably gangnam, I know i'm getting picky). Any suggestions? I would like to find a job within the next 2 weeks or so if possible.

Also, do u get to choose your vacation times? Because that would be ideal. I have a friend's wedding I want to attend in the beginning of July. Or do most of the schools have a similar calendar that they use for vacation? Less working hours is a bonus too, i don't care if i get paid a tiny bit less.

Can I ask?

Is this your first job you are looking for? It is already difficult to find A job, but on top of that, you want to dictate terms as such?

Get qualified, is my answer.

I think if the title of this thread had been more subtle, then the OP probably wouldn't be getting so much flack. I'm not saying Dave's isn't full of people waiting to seize any opportunity to go for the jugular, but in an industry full of people who neglect their responsibilities and treat their job like an extended vacation, if the first thing that some unknown person says is 'I want a job with LOTS of vacation', red flags tend to go up.

The vacation aspect of this job is definitely nice, but it shouldn't be the main reason that someone wants to work here... and on the Internet, a lot of people don't read so carefully beyond the headlines. A more general question along the lines of 'Which ESL job has the most perks?' would have probably gotten fewer negative reactions.
