I wish someone would tell someone at Emart to change their paper bags. They're god awful. On the rare occasions when I actually need more bags, I die a little inside when I see them bring out a paper bag. |
I loved the E-Mart plastic bags from earlier days. The big, sturdy, yellow ones. Perfect to collect my recycle waste in. I got a number of their reusable bags a while ago (and I love them! Great size and quality! But not available anymore?) but I never carry them around, and I don't plan for my shopping.
The paper bags are awful without handles. I'm sure they expect you to use them only to keep your stuff together while you walk to your car. Not at all practical if you're on public transport or walk. I believe this is an educational measure to make you bring your own bag.
I keep some of the paper bags in my bedroom just in case I ever make the mistake of picking up a girl at Helios after 3am again. |

My two problems, precisely. Now that I don't get plastic bags on the reg, my recycling piles up until I have like 30 giant water bottles. What do y'all use for recycling now?

My issue is that the Homeplus near me is juuuuust over the border for the next town, so their garbage bags aren't for my area. I try to bring my own bag or two, but sometimes I just end up using a box and taking a taxi home, if the stuff is heavy. |

I still get plenty of plastic bags from convenience stores, and the nearest E-Mart is too far away for regular shopping. But I still let the metal, plastic, glass and paper waste pile up. Lazy me.
In Bangkok they're now selling nylon reusable shopping bags for 30 or 50 Baht, quite strong and they can be folded to the size of a flat pack of cigarettes. At least that's how I bought one, I'm not sure if I can refold it to that format. Anyway, I still keep forgetting it at home. |

Quit your bellyachin'. We are freaking drowning in plastic. We need to reduce it much, much further until we don't "do" plastic anymore. I applaud the Korean chains for doing this. Who care is the paper bags are fragile. Bring your own bag from home and store it in those lockers. Not too difficult. |

You have to ask for the bag before you pay. Just say "bag-UH" and they'll bag your stuff. You should ask before you pay because they charge you for the bag and it's a waste of their time to have to do a seperate transaction because some waygook can't get with the program. How long have you been in Korea? I think I was able to figure out this bizarre phenomenon within a week. Many Koreans bring their own bags so the cashiers don't assume everyone needs one. |

It's a hassle for about a dozen reasons, the two bigs one being - One, the people who work there get paid garbage so they don't care. Two, the government has been all over retailers to reduce their usage of plastic bags, so much so that the big three no longer use plastic , having switched to paper and pushing people to use cloth bags. |
Ah, that's why my groceries have been splitting stupid paper bags and spilling all over the road. Thanks government! |
While the government would be appreciative of your grateful attitude, they'd probably be upset by the fact that you're littering all over the street. You can cut down on your grocery-based litter by using Costco (or other reusable) bags.

I use a Britta filter. No more plastic bottles. Cheaper too.
