I posted his name not because I dislike him, or due to jealousy, but there is a serious problem in how Koreans view general English education- a problem he contributes greatly to.
Dignity can buy you brownie points here.  Unfortunately, Isaac Durst sold his soul for a quick buck (not to say he's not a nice guy or not talented) |

Oh yeah. The clowning/entertainment thing for adults and university students really bugs me. It's like a minstrel show. |

They always try to find the oddest looking foreigner for TV shows and commercials. Besides Durst, last year we had the obese guy who looked like Pavorotti (beard and everything) acting like a nut. Now they have the goofy-looking black guy in commercials grinning riduculously at the camera. Can't be depicting normal looking foreigners. Must only depict foreigners with exaggeratted features looking stupid. 
I guess when they need a break from depicting us as drug dealers and rapists, they need to fill the gap by depicting us as clowns. Fascinating culture we're ensconced in here. |

Most of the actors in snack food or drink or those types of commercials act goofy and exaggerated. Just walking past a Burger King, I see ads with Korean dudes flipping their lids over flame-broiled burgers. Those comedy shows always have people getting awestruck by whatever parlor trick act they happen to be showcasing. That is just the style. It's very vaudeville and exaggerated.
It would be different if it were just the foreigners, but it's everybody!
If you friend has a Bachelors, good energy, and a clean record, they will knock the socks of their students and employers. He will find great joy in a kindergarten, I think. |
